Successful applicants will be involved in evaluation of yeast strains in bioreactors, development and optimization of bioprocess, laboratory and pilot scale sample production, process scale-up and DSP development. The position is largely hands-on laboratory work, but may also involve organizational tasks and supervision.Our ideal candidate should have a strong track record in developing and running microbial bioprocesses, as well as exceptional organizational skills, and a passion for using science &amp; technology to solve tough challenges. The candidate should also be comfortable working in the dynamic environment of a start-up company, troubleshooting challenging projects, and meeting tight deadlines.Occasionally, some activities may require working outside of standard working hours. The position will likely require travel within Sweden and abroad. Responsibilities and tasks:<ul><li>Plan, set up, and run routine fermentations at lab and pilot scale to generate material for application testing and customer samples</li><li>Assist in the design, development, and optimization of bioprocesses to improve strain performance</li><li>Support scale‑up activities, including modelling, down‑scaling studies, tech transfer packages, and risk assessment</li><li>Support external manufacturing partners on site to supervise process validation and production runs</li><li>Support the optimization and implementation of downstream processes</li><li>Work closely with strain engineering, analytics, product development, and commercial teams to align on goals and deliverables</li><li>Ensure accurate documentation of process parameters, deviations, and batch results.</li><li>Prepare technical reports, SOPs, and presentations</li><li>Assist in identifying and securing IPR</li></ul>Required qualifications:<ul><li>Candidates should hold an Msc or PhD in bioprocess engineering, chemical engineering, biotechnology, or a similar field</li><li>3+ years of hands-on experience in bioprocess development and/or operations, preferably with yeasts</li><li>Strong expertise with different bioprocesses, including batch, fed-batch, and continuous processes</li><li>Familiarity with DSP unit operations (e.g., filtration, centrifugation, extraction, phase separation, chromatography)</li><li>Experience with the modelling/simulation of bioprocesses</li><li>Strong understanding of bioprocess fundamentals (e.g. mass/energy balances, oxygen transfer, scale‑up principles, and process control)</li><li>Excellent organizational and time management skills</li><li>High attention to detail and ability to deliver high-quality documentation</li><li>Strong problem-solving skills</li><li>Excellent written and oral communication skills in English</li><li>Hands-on, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-moving, experimental environment</li><li>Strong team spirit and excellent collaboration skills</li><li>Preferably authorized to work in Sweden (Sweden/EU citizen or permanent resident)</li></ul> Bonus points:<ul><li>Experience in scaling up processes from lab to pilot, demo, and/or commercial scale</li><li>Experience with microbial lipid production</li><li>Experience with downstream processing of lipids (extraction, refining, etc.)</li><li>Experience with analytics (HPLC, GC-MS, etc.)</li><li>Experience with quality control of bioprocesses (GMP, GLP standards)</li><li>Leadership experience (supervision, project coordination with external parties, etc.)</li><li>Work experience in a commercial setting</li></ul> We offer:<ul><li>An innovative interdisciplinary research environment where you can advance in your career</li><li>Unique opportunity to participate in and lead innovative projects that solve real world problems</li><li>Work in the lovely city of Gothenburg- Sweden’s second-largest city.
