The successful candidate will be working as a Drupal Engineer to design, build, and maintain high‑quality Drupal‑based websites and digital experiences. The ideal candidate will have strong experience across Drupal site‑building, back‑end module development, front‑end theming, and modern DevOps practices. This role requires a strong technical foundation, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate effectively with BAs, designers, and cross‑functional stakeholders.Role Responsibilities: Drupal Development &amp; Site Building·        Develop, configure, and maintain Drupal 8/9/10 websites.·        Build and customise content types, views, blocks, taxonomies, and menus.·        Create and maintain custom modules using Drupal APIs (hooks, plugins, services).·        Implement responsive themes using Twig templates and front-end frameworks.Front-End Engineering·        Develop clean, responsive, and accessible UI components using HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript.·        Implement design systems or theme frameworks (e.g., Bootstrap, Tailwind).·        Optimise user experience across web and mobile.·        At least one modern framework:Skills include:o   Component‑based developmento   State management (Redux, Vuex, Zustand, etc.)o   Routing, forms, data-fetching patternsUI/UX Understandingo   Familiarity with UI/UX principleso   Ability to interpret Figma, Sketch, XD designso   Attention to spacing, typography, color, and interaction patter Back-End Engineering<ul><li>Write clean, maintainable PHP code following OOP principles.</li><li>Work with Drupal’s configuration management, routing, and entity APIs.</li><li>Integrate with third-party APIs and internal systems as required.</li></ul>Database &amp; Systems Integration<ul><li>Configure and optimise MySQL/MariaDB queries and schemas for Drupal.</li><li>Utilise Drupal’s database abstraction layer effectively.</li><li>Manage data migration, import/export, and content automation workflows.</li></ul>DevOps &amp; Deployment<ul><li>Manage code versioning using Git.</li><li>Work with CI/CD pipelines and containerized environments (e.g., Docker).</li><li>Deploy and optimise Drupal sites on cloud platforms (Acquia, Pantheon, AWS).</li><li>Implement caching layers (Varnish, Redis) and performance tuning.</li></ul>Security &amp; Compliance<ul><li>Apply Drupal security best practices and monitor patching requirements.</li><li>Ensure adherence to secure coding guidelines and governance frameworks.</li><li>Manage user roles, permissions, and content workflows.</li></ul>Testing &amp; Quality Assurance<ul><li>Conduct unit, integration, and functional testing</li><li>Debug and resolve defects across environments using tools like Xdebug or Drupal Devel.</li></ul>Collaboration &amp; Documentation<ul><li>Work closely with Business Analysts, UX/UI teams, and stakeholders.</li><li>Interpret business requirements into technical specifications.</li><li>Document technical designs, workflows, and deployment guides.</li></ul>Technical Skills<ul><li>Strong hands‑on experience with Drupal 8/9/10 (site-building + back‑end development).</li><li>Proficiency in PHP, including OOP and Composer.</li><li>Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and Twig templates.</li><li>Experience developing custom Drupal modules.</li><li>Good understanding of database design, SQL, and Drupal’s entity schema.</li><li>Experience with Git, CI/CD, Docker, and modern DevOps workflows.</li><li>Familiarity with Acquia, Pantheon, or other enterprise hosting platforms.</li><li>Understanding of security hardening, performance tuning, and caching.</li></ul>Soft Skills<ul><li>Strong communication skills and ability to explain technical topics clearly.</li><li>Ability to work collaboratively within Agile/Scrum teams.</li><li>Strong problem‑solving, analytical thinking, and attention to detail.</li><li>Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.</li></ul>Desirable Experience / Competences<ul><li>Drupal Acquia Certifications (Developer, Front‑end, Back‑end) are highly desirable.</li><li>Hands‑on experience with multisite, multilingual, or enterprise‑grade Drupal platforms, including CMS migration projects.</li><li>Exposure to cloud environments such as AWS and experience with API integrations.</li><li>Strong understanding of content governance, editorial workflows, and structured content practices.</li></ul>General Skills<ul><li>Proven experience in software development, problem solving, documentation and working to tight deadlines.</li><li>Ability to work on multiple tasks whilst managing multiple deadlines and priorities.</li><li>Ability to self-start, identify tasks required independently to fulfil project deliverables and work as a team member.</li><li>Understanding the full project lifecycle from requirements capture through to implementation and delivery.</li><li>A proven track record of developing high quality software to business specification whilst understanding processes and requirements. </li><li>Strong understanding of Agile/Waterfall development methodologies. </li><li>Experience of using Agile for example Scrum, Safe, Kanban methodologies.</li><li>Ability to produce design documentation in a clear, accurate and concise manner. </li><li>Ability to use own initiative, with strong personal organisation skills.  </li><li>Ability to develop new skills and understand new technology as required. </li><li>Personable and engaging. </li><li>Communicates effectively and efficiently to internal and external stakeholders. </li><li>Build relationships and networks with both internally and externally wherever possible. </li><li>Demonstrates strong customer focus. </li><li>Demonstrates ability to work effectively with others. </li><li>Constructively handles disagreements to reach a resolution. </li><li>Ability to work with diverse groups/ personalities. </li><li>Open to innovative ideas/ experiences and ability to create new ideas, approaches or insights. </li><li>Excellent attention to detail, highly organised with a proactive approach.</li><li>Strong analytical ability and problem solving skills.</li></ul>Not The Perfect Fit?Concerned that you may not meet the criteria precisely?
