HV and Transmission Interconnection Engineer

You’ll provide technical leadership and subject-matter expertise across the full project lifecycle, ensuring interconnection solutions are technically sound, strategically aligned, and executable. This role sits at the intersection of engineering rigor, system planning, and cross-functional partnership. Your work will directly inform project design, risk management, cost certainty, and schedule confidence, supporting projects from early development through commercial operation. Team Overview This team plays a critical role in advancing Intersect’s mission to accelerate the clean energy transition at scale. The Engineering organization is responsible for translating development concepts into technically viable, financeable, and constructible projects. The team partners closely with Development, Construction, Operations, and Project Finance to manage technical risk, optimize system performance, and deliver high-quality assets. Joining Engineering means applying deep technical expertise in a collaborative environment where precision, accountability, and continuous improvement drive long-term impact. What You’ll Do Interconnection Strategy and Execution<ul><li>Lead end-to-end generator and large load interconnection processes from early development through COD, with accountability for schedule, risk, and outcomes.</li><li>Develop and execute short-, mid-, and long-term interconnection strategies aligned with the company’s development and investment roadmap.</li><li>Identify and evaluate interconnection options, constraints, and mitigation strategies to support project siting and portfolio optimization.</li></ul> Utility, ISO, and Stakeholder Engagement<ul><li>Serve as the primary point of contact with utilities, ERCOT, and relevant stakeholders on all interconnection-related matters.</li><li>Build and maintain strong working relationships with transmission owners, system operators, and regulatory bodies to advance project objectives.</li><li>Actively participate in transmission planning meetings, stakeholder forums, task forces, and working groups, providing timely insights to internal teams.</li></ul> Technical Oversight and Studies<ul><li>Review and interpret interconnection study results, including feasibility, system impact, and facilities studies.</li><li>Independently replicate study findings, identify errors, assess sensitivities, and develop alternative mitigation solutions where appropriate.</li><li>Collaborate with internal engineering teams and external consultants on IBR modeling, transmission planning, and study execution.</li></ul> Cross-Functional Leadership<ul><li>Support Origination, Development, Engineering, Construction, and Project Finance teams with interconnection expertise throughout the project lifecycle.</li><li>Translate complex technical and regulatory issues into clear, actionable guidance for internal and external stakeholders.</li><li>Develop and maintain internal tools, processes, and reporting to track interconnection status, risks, and decision points across the portfolio.</li></ul> Market and Regulatory Insight<ul><li>Monitor interconnection reforms, regulatory developments, and emerging technologies impacting interconnection policy and execution.</li><li>Proactively assess implications of market rule changes and transmission planning initiatives on the company’s assets and strategy.</li><li>Advocate for the company’s interests in industry forums and regulatory processes.</li></ul> What You’ll Bring<ul><li>10+ years of experience with an IPP, project developer, ISO/RTO, utility, or power systems consulting firm.</li><li>Demonstrated experience with interconnection studies, transmission planning, and IBR modeling, particularly in ERCOT.</li><li>Strong working knowledge of FERC, NERC, and ISO/RTO interconnection requirements, standards, and processes.</li><li>Hands-on experience with at least one, and preferably several, of the following tools: PSLF, PowerWorld, PSSE, PSCAD, TARA, and ASPEN.</li><li>Direct experience with transmission and distribution interconnection tariffs, procedures, and studies in key markets, specifically ERCOT.</li><li>Experience supporting large load interconnections and non-traditional interconnection use cases.</li><li>Proven ability to lead complex technical processes while managing multiple stakeholders and competing priorities.</li><li>Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence technical and non-technical audiences.</li><li>A self-directed work style and sound judgment in ambiguous, fast-evolving environments.</li><li>Active participation or leadership in industry working groups or task forces.</li><li>Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline preferred; equivalent industry experience considered.</li></ul></div> Total Rewards At Intersect, we care about your well-being, growth, and balance.
