The PositionSympower is seeking an experienced short-term power trader to join the 24/7 Trading Desk on an interim basis for 3–4 months. The role centers on hands-on trade execution and PnL management for our growing Nordic BESS portfolio, while also contributing to the broader development of trading strategies, market analysis, and team capability.This is a front-line execution role with a strong collaborative element. The successful candidate will work closely with our Front Office Quant and Portfolio Management teams to implement and refine optimization strategies across intraday, balancing, and ancillary service markets.What you will doTrade Execution and PnL Management<ul><li>Directly manage profitable intraday trading and real-time dispatch of Nordic BESS assets across Nord Pool intraday and balancing markets.</li><li>Own daily PnL outcomes: monitor positions, manage risk exposures, and adjust strategies in response to market conditions.</li><li>Execute trades across multiple revenue streams including intraday spreads, mFRR, aFRR, and FCR where applicable.</li></ul>Strategy Development and Optimization<ul><li>Collaborate with the Quant team to design, backtest, and deploy intraday and balancing market trading strategies for BESS assets.</li><li>Develop and maintain optimization playbooks covering dispatch logic, spread capture, and market regime responses.</li><li>Contribute to market analysis and scenario modelling to support portfolio-level decision making.</li><li>Support development and refinement of algorithmic trading strategies and automated execution workflows.</li></ul>Risk Analysis and Market Intelligence<ul><li>Perform ongoing analysis of Nordic intraday price dynamics, volatility patterns, and balancing market fundamentals.</li><li>Identify emerging risks and trading opportunities; communicate insights and recommendations to the Head of Trading and wider team.</li><li>Support risk limit monitoring and adherence to the trading risk framework.</li></ul>Coaching and Team Development<ul><li>Mentor and coach junior traders on the 24/7 desk, sharing best practices in trade execution, market reading, and risk discipline.</li><li>Contribute to structured knowledge transfer to build lasting capability within the team.</li></ul>Essential<ul><li>Demonstrated recent experience (3+ years) trading intraday power markets in Europe.</li><li>Strong understanding of short-term power market microstructure, order book dynamics, and price formation.</li><li>Proven track record of profitable trade execution with clear PnL accountability.</li><li>Solid grasp of risk management principles and disciplined position management.</li><li>Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, 24/7 trading environment.</li><li>Strong communicator who can articulate market views and trading rationale clearly.</li></ul>Strongly Preferred<ol><li>Direct experience on Nord Pool, specifically Nordic intraday markets (XBID / local order books).</li><li>Hands-on experience trading and optimizing BESS or other flexible assets (demand response, pumped hydro, virtual power plants).</li><li>Trading experience in Nordic / continental balancing and ancillary service markets (mFRR, aFRR, FCR).</li></ol>Big PlusExperience building and executing algorithmic or systematic trading strategies for power or BESS assets (e.g., automated intraday spread capture, signal-based dispatch, model-driven bidding).Who we areSympower is accelerating the global transition towards ‘net-zero’ by helping to build smarter, cleaner renewable energy systems.
