At the North Vancouver Refinery, we specialize specifically in oil recycling.Reporting to the Operation Supervisor, the Operator is accountable for day-to-day operations of process units and its ancillaries at North Vancouver Oil Refinery.This is a unionized position. The work schedule for the first six months will be 7:00am to 3:00pm, Monday through Friday. The schedule will then transition to a rotating schedule, 2 days then 2 nights, then 5 days off. Hours of work will be 7:00am to 7:00pm (days) and 7:00pm to 7:00am (nights).Key Accountabilities<ul><li>Ensure that all units are operated to GFL standards and in accordance with all government regulations.</li><li>Operate, monitor and control process levels, temperatures, pressures and flows for applicable utilities, processes and systems in a safe and efficient manner.</li><li>Ensure that the required documentation is legible, accurate and completed on a timely basis.</li><li>Use technical expertise to assist process operations in the optimization of all units and equipment.</li><li>Identify and recommend improvements to processes and systems.</li><li>Perform emergency operation activities as needed.</li><li>Regularly attend safety meetings, identify any safety concerns to the supervisor, report all incidents and assist in investigations.</li><li>Perform mechanical and or equipment maintenance as required and/or assigned.</li><li>Maintain safe and clean equipment and general work area.</li><li>Train on unfamiliar processes and equipment, within established guidelines and procedures, as required.</li><li>Acquire and maintain adequate certification as required.</li><li>Provide guidance, direction and technical expertise to less experienced operators.</li><li>Other duties as required. </li></ul>Experience, Qualifications &amp; Education<ul><li>A minimum of 3 years petroleum refinery related experience.</li><li>Valid Class 5 Drivers License. </li><li>A strong understanding of oil distillation and / or hydrotreating.</li><li>Must be a current holder of BC or Inter-provincial minimum 4th Class Power Engineering certificate.</li><li>Able to work various shifts as shifts can rotate, have extended and overtime hours. The refinery operates 24/7.</li></ul>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities<ul><li>Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.</li><li>Strong problem-solving skills.</li><li>Strong team player with the ability to work under minimal supervision.</li><li>Ability to perform physical and labour-intensive tasks.</li><li>Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.</li><li>Must be able to work effectively in a team environment.</li></ul>This is a safety sensitive position.
