Position SummaryThe Construction Director is responsible for full on-site leadership and execution of utility-scale solar EPC projects. This role oversees all construction activities from Notice to Proceed (NTP) through Commercial Operation Date (COD), ensuring safe, high-quality, on-time, and on-budget delivery. The Construction Director represents the EPC firm on-site and is accountable for managing subcontractors, field teams, and client relationships.Key ResponsibilitiesSite Leadership &amp; Execution<ul> <li>Lead all field operations for utility-scale solar projects (20MW–500MW+) </li> <li>Oversee installation of PV modules, trackers, inverters, DC/AC systems, substations, and balance of plant (BOP) </li> <li>Direct site superintendents and field teams to ensure efficient execution </li></ul>Project Delivery (EPC Focus)<ul> <li>Own site-level execution of EPC contracts, including scope, schedule, and cost </li> <li>Drive construction schedules aligned with contractual milestones (NTP to COD) </li> <li>Manage field budgets, labor productivity, and cost controls to protect margin </li> <li>Support change order development, claims management, and contract compliance </li></ul>Subcontractor &amp; Vendor Management<ul> <li>Manage and coordinate subcontractors across civil, mechanical, and electrical scopes </li> <li>Ensure subcontractor performance, safety compliance, and adherence to contract terms </li> <li>Oversee material deliveries, inventory control, and site logistics (modules, racking, transformers, inverters) </li></ul>Safety &amp; Compliance<ul> <li>Champion a zero-incident safety culture; enforce OSHA and company HSE standards </li> <li>Conduct safety audits, toolbox talks, and incident investigations </li> <li>Ensure compliance with permits, environmental regulations, and AHJ requirements </li></ul>Quality, Testing &amp; Commissioning<ul> <li>Implement QA/QC programs to ensure all installations meet engineering and manufacturer standards </li> <li>Oversee mechanical completion, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities </li> <li>Coordinate with commissioning teams and utilities for testing, energization, and grid interconnection </li></ul>Client &amp; Stakeholder Management<ul> <li>Serve as the primary on-site representative to the client/owner and third-party stakeholders </li> <li>Provide regular reporting on schedule, cost, risk, and progress </li> <li>Resolve field issues proactively to maintain client satisfaction and project momentum </li></ul>Qualifications<ul> <li>Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (preferred) </li> <li>10–15+ years of construction experience, including 5+ years in utility-scale solar EPC projects </li> <li>Demonstrated success delivering large-scale solar farms under EPC contracts </li> <li>Strong knowledge of electrical systems, substations, and grid interconnection processes </li> <li>Proficiency with project management tools (e.g., Procore, Primavera P6, MS Project) </li></ul>Core Competencies<ul> <li>EPC project execution and contract management expertise </li> <li>Strong field leadership and team development </li> <li>Financial acumen with focus on cost control and margin protection </li> <li>Advanced problem-solving in fast-paced construction environments </li> <li>Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills </li></ul>Work Environment<ul> <li>Based primarily at active project sites (often remote locations) </li> <li>Frequent travel and extended on-site presence required </li> <li>Work in outdoor environments under varying weather conditions </li> <li>Extended hours as needed to meet critical EPC milestones </li></ul>
