POSITION SUMMARY: The Lab/Facility Chemist II analyzes hazardous and non-hazardous waste to ensure proper treatment and disposal compliance. The incumbent applies approved preparation techniques and utilizes instruments to analyze environmental samples for the determination of organic and inorganic constituents.PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:<ul><li>Performs preparation techniques and instrumental analysis of environmental samples for the determination of organic and inorganic constituents using approved government agency test methods and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and Work Instructions (WI).</li><li>Performs Initial Demonstration of Capability (IDOC) prior to data reporting for any method the chemist will be conducting analysis. Maintains a satisfactory annual Demonstration of Capability (DOC) for each method. </li><li>Maintains SOPs and WI in combination with regulation changes, methodology changes, process improvements, and/or leadership input. </li><li>Analyzes the chemical composition of materials and conducts research on suitable treatment methods. Provides technical expertise to develop formulas, improve processes, and solve technical problems. Ensures familiarity with quality control measures and necessary calculations for applicable methods.</li><li>Reads, analyzes, and interprets general scientific documentation, technical procedures, and governmental regulations, and responds effectively to sensitive inquiries. </li><li>Completes basic instrument maintenance and repairs.
