Job Description:<h2>Position Summary</h2>We are seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to take full ownership of control system design and implementation for construction machinery.This role requires a highly capable engineer who can lead the development of control software, system architecture, and control strategies, while working hands-on with physical machines and driving cross-functional execution.<h2>Key Responsibilities</h2><h3>Control System Ownership</h3><ul><li>Own all aspects of control system design and implementation for machine platforms</li><li>Lead development of machine control software from architecture through deployment</li><li>Design software using state logic (or similar structured approaches)</li><li>Develop modular, reusable software deployable across multiple machines</li></ul><h3>Advanced Controls &amp; System Modeling</h3><ul><li>Design and implement control algorithms tailored to machine behavior</li><li>Characterize plant dynamics and define appropriate control strategies</li><li>Apply and tune feedback and feedforward control systems</li><li>(Desirable) Derive or validate kinematic equations for complex mechanisms</li></ul><h3>Testing, Debugging &amp; Validation</h3><ul><li>Lead testing and debugging on test systems and production machines</li><li>Own system validation and performance tuning</li><li>Drive structured debugging and verification processes</li></ul><h3>System-Level Troubleshooting</h3><ul><li>Diagnose and resolve issues across: Software Electrical systems (low voltage) Mechanical systems</li><li>Troubleshoot dynamic mechanical systems</li><li>Decompose complex system problems and determine root cause across domains</li></ul><h3>Hands-on Engineering &amp; Field Work</h3><ul><li>Work extensively with physical machinery during development and deployment</li><li>Lead field testing and commissioning on utility-scale solar sites</li><li>Diagnose electrical issues using tools such as multimeters</li></ul><h3>Cross-Functional Leadership</h3><ul><li>Collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders: Design engineering Field engineering Construction teams</li><li>Act as a key interface between software, hardware, and field operations</li><li>Drive changes required in mechanical, electrical, and process domains to ensure automation success</li></ul><h3>Teamwork &amp; Leadership</h3><ul><li>Operate effectively across diverse teams and environments</li><li>Mentor junior engineers</li><li>Lead automation efforts beyond software (system-level ownership)</li></ul><h2>Required Qualifications</h2><ul><li>Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field</li><li>6+ years of experience in controls, robotics, or machine automation</li><li>Strong expertise in programming and software development</li><li>Experience with real-time systems (C/C++, PLCs, or similar)</li><li>Strong understanding of control systems and system dynamics</li><li>Proven hands-on experience with mechanical and low-voltage electrical systems</li></ul><h2>Preferred Qualifications</h2><ul><li>Master’s degree (MSME, MSEE, MSCS)</li><li>Python programming experience</li><li>Experience designing modular and scalable control architectures</li><li>Strong understanding of kinematics and machine behavior</li></ul><h2>Key Competencies</h2><ul><li>Strong system-level thinking and ownership mindset</li><li>Advanced troubleshooting across disciplines</li><li>Ability to break down complex systems into root causes</li><li>Leadership through influence and technical depth</li><li>Strong communication across diverse teams</li><li>High accountability and execution focus</li></ul>At Nextpower, we are driving the global energy transition with an integrated clean energy technology platform that combines intelligent structural, electrical, and digital solutions for utility-scale power plants.
