<h2>Overview</h2><p>Joby Aviation is seeking a passionate Propulsion Assembly Manufacturing Engineer to join our Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Engineering Team in San Carlos, CA. The Propulsion Assembly Manufacturing Engineer will​ participate in new product introduction and ramp-up of Joby aircraft powertrains through implementation of manufacturing equipment and new processes, and working closely with cross-functional teams. This individual must be organized and self-driven while possessing an understanding of manufacturing scale-up, mechanical &amp; electrical fundamentals, equipment and quality systems. This position is exciting and rewarding, as the Propulsion Assembly Manufacturing Engineer will see their ideas influence many key areas at Joby Aviation due to the fast-paced environment.</p><h2>Responsibilities</h2><ul> <li>Partner with Design, Quality, Test, and Equipment Engineering to develop world-class propulsion assembly manufacturing processes — driving higher quality, at quantity, and on-time equipment readiness at every build phase</li> <li>Design, build, and implement custom manufacturing fixtures and tooling to support propulsion assembly, test, and validation — ensuring robust process control, repeatability, and operator ergonomics from prototype through volume production</li> <li>Participate in design and drawing reviews, ensuring implementation of DFA/DFM best practices during all stages of product development</li> <li>Drive cross-functional execution with a “one-team” mindset to deliver step-change improvements in safety, quality, throughput, and ergonomics from prototype through ramp to volume production</li> <li>Lead the equipment selection and process development for the bring-up, qualification, and deployment of advanced manufacturing processes like dyno testing and coolant filling</li> <li>Author and release high-clarity manufacturing procedures — then drive successful adoption on the production line to ensure flawless build execution at scale</li></ul><h2>Required</h2><ul> <li>Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field, with 2+ years of relevant industry experience</li> <li>Solid foundation in mechanical engineering principles and practices</li> <li>Hands-on experience in manufacturing process development and execution of process validation activities</li> <li>Familiarity with precision assembly processes, equipment and standards</li></ul><ul> <li>Detail-oriented, strong problem-solving abilities and a collaborative mindset, with a history of solving technical challenges in a cross-functional team and a fast-paced environment</li></ul><ul> <li>Proficient in GD&amp;T per ASME Y14.5 for tolerance stack-up analysis</li> <li>Familiarity with DFM/DFA best practices and their practical application</li></ul><h2>Desired</h2><ul> <li>Experience in manufacturing in a regulated environment such as 14 CFR Part 21, ISO9001, ISO 13485, TS16949, or equivalent</li> <li>Experience with precision and/or electro-mechanical assembly, or powertrain assembly</li> <li>Understanding of SPC (statistical process control) methods and techniques and their practical application</li></ul><p> </p><p>Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs).
