Job DescriptionThe Construction Manager (PMC) will act as the site-level execution leader and client representative, responsible for end-to-end construction management of transmission lines, substations (AIS/GIS/Digital), and renewable energy integration (solar, wind, BESS).The role requires multi-disciplinary coordination across Electrical, Civil, and I&amp;C systems, ensuring alignment with engineering intent, quality standards, safety requirements, and project timelines. The position interfaces closely with the Team Leader, Engineering Heads, QA/QC, HSE, and Project Controls functions to drive successful project delivery.Key Responsibilities1. Construction &amp; Site Management<ul><li>Lead and oversee day-to-day construction activities for substations (up to 765 kV), transmission lines, and renewable integration infrastructure.</li><li>Ensure execution as per approved drawings, technical specifications, QAP/FQP, and method statements.</li><li>Supervise EPC contractors and subcontractors, ensuring compliance with contract requirements and site readiness.</li><li>Validate site conditions, constructability, and readiness, including proactive identification of constraints (ROW, logistics, interfaces).</li><li>Ensure effective deployment of manpower, materials, and equipment at site.</li></ul>2. Multi-Disciplinary Coordination (Electrical, Civil &amp; I&amp;C)<ul><li>Coordinate closely with Electrical, Civil &amp; Structural, and I&amp;C Heads to ensure seamless integration of:<ul><li>Substation systems (AIS/GIS, transformers, reactors, switchgear)</li><li>Transmission line works (tower erection, stringing, foundations)</li><li>Control &amp; protection systems (SCADA, SAS, PLC, WAPS/PMU where applicable)</li></ul></li><li>Resolve site-level engineering issues and ensure timely closure of RFIs, TQs, and design deviations.</li><li>Ensure interface management between renewable plants (solar/wind/BESS) and grid infrastructure.</li></ul>3. Renewable Energy &amp; Grid Integration<ul><li>Oversee construction of solar PV plants, wind farms, and BESS systems, ensuring alignment with grid interconnection requirements.</li><li>Ensure readiness of pooling substations, evacuation systems, and SCADA integration.</li><li>Coordinate with stakeholders for grid synchronization, testing, and commissioning activities.</li></ul>4. Project Controls &amp; Planning<ul><li>Work with Project Controls team to:<ul><li>Track progress against L2/L3 schedules (Primavera/MSP)</li><li>Monitor critical path activities and identify delays</li><li>Implement recovery plans and corrective actions</li></ul></li><li>Support preparation of daily/weekly/monthly progress reports, dashboards, and forecasts.</li><li>Ensure alignment between construction progress, procurement, and engineering deliverables.</li></ul>5. Quality Assurance &amp; Compliance<ul><li>Ensure strict implementation of Quality Management Systems (QMS) and project-specific QAP/FQP.</li><li>Conduct and witness inspections, FAT/SAT, testing &amp; commissioning activities.</li><li>Monitor and close Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and ensure corrective/preventive actions.</li><li>Ensure all works comply with IEC, IEEE, IS, and client specifications.</li></ul>6. Health, Safety &amp; Environment<ul><li>Enforce zero-incident safety culture and compliance with HSE plans and procedures.</li><li>Ensure implementation of Permit to Work (PTW), risk assessments, and toolbox talks.</li><li>Monitor contractor safety performance and conduct regular audits and inspections.</li><li>Lead incident investigations and ensure implementation of corrective measures.</li></ul>7. Stakeholder &amp; Contractor Management<ul><li>Act as the primary interface between client, EPC contractors, vendors, and authorities at site.</li><li>Conduct regular coordination meetings, progress reviews, and issue resolution sessions.</li><li>Ensure timely approvals, decisions, and escalation of critical issues to the Team Leader/PMC leadership.</li><li>Support statutory inspections and compliance with regulatory requirements.</li></ul>8. Pre-Construction Planning &amp; Risk Mitigation<ul><li>Conduct site constructability reviews and readiness assessments prior to execution.</li><li>Identify potential risks (technical, logistical, environmental) and implement mitigation strategies.</li><li>Ensure availability of drawings, materials, manpower, and access before activity commencement.</li><li>Plan contingencies to avoid disruption and ensure smooth project execution.</li></ul>9. Commissioning &amp; Handover<ul><li>Oversee pre-commissioning, testing, and commissioning activities for all systems.</li><li>Ensure completion of punch points, documentation, and as-built drawings.</li><li>Support grid compliance tests, energization, and project handover to operations.</li></ul>Leadership &amp; Integration Role<ul><li>Work under the PMC Team Leader and provide leadership to site engineers and supervisors.</li><li>Ensure alignment with:<ul><li>Electrical, Civil, and I&amp;C Heads (engineering compliance)</li><li>QA Manager (quality assurance)</li><li>HSE Manager (safety compliance)</li><li>Project Controls Head (schedule &amp; cost monitoring)</li></ul></li><li>Drive a collaborative, performance-driven site environment.</li></ul>Technical Skills<ul><li>Strong knowledge of:<ul><li>Substation and transmission construction practices</li><li>Solar, wind, and BESS integration systems</li><li>Testing &amp; commissioning procedures</li></ul></li><li>Familiarity with tools:<ul><li>Primavera P6 / MS Project</li><li>AutoCAD / engineering drawings</li><li>MS Office and reporting tools</li></ul></li></ul>Technical Knowledge &amp; Expertise<ul><li>Strong proficiency in substation construction and design constructibility reviews, including AIS/GIS substations, equipment layout optimization, and installation methodologies.</li><li>Extensive experience in transmission line construction, including tower erection, foundation works, conductor stringing, and sag-tensioning practices.</li><li>Hands-on expertise in OPGW installation, jointing, testing, and integration with communication and SCADA systems.</li><li>In-depth understanding of construction sequencing, method statements, and site execution planning for EHV/UHV/HVDC projects.</li><li>Ability to identify and mitigate constructability challenges at early stages to avoid rework, delays, and cost overruns.</li></ul>Core Competencies &amp; Leadership Skills<ul><li>Strong leadership and team management capabilities, with proven ability to manage multi-disciplinary site teams and EPC contractors.</li><li>Expertise in vendor and contractor management, including performance monitoring, coordination, and dispute resolution.</li><li>Advanced skills in risk assessment, proactive planning, and mitigation strategy development to ensure uninterrupted project execution.</li><li>Effective conflict resolution and negotiation skills, ensuring alignment among stakeholders and timely issue closure.</li><li>Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement, enabling seamless coordination between client, consultants, and contractors.</li></ul>
