<h2>The Role</h2>You will design and build the cloud platform for GridIQ’s grid monitoring device. The platform will include device data ingestion over MQTT/HTTPS, time-series storage, multi-tenant access control, alerting, data backup, and the API consumed by the operator dashboard. This is a greenfield build on a cloud compute platform. The architecture needs to work for a pilot and scale to a multi-thousand device fleet without re-platforming. <h2>Responsibilities</h2><ul><li>Build the IoT ingestion layer: MQTT broker, AWS IoT Core or similar, and pipeline from device uplink to durable storage</li><li>Design the data storage layer: time-series schema, data lake partitioning, and long-term archival</li><li>Implement multi-tenant access control with appropriate data isolation and audit logging</li><li>Build automated data backup and recovery; define and test RPO/RTO</li><li>Build the alerting pipeline: threshold and anomaly detection triggers, notification dispatch (email, SMS, webhook)</li><li>Design and maintain the REST API for the frontend and third-party integrations</li><li>Write and own infrastructure-as-code (Terraform or CDK) and CI/CD for backend services</li></ul> <h2>Qualifications</h2><ul><li>5+ years of backend engineering with at least one production IoT or telemetry platform</li><li>Experience with AWS IoT Core and MQTT-based ingestion pipelines</li><li>Proficiency in Python or Go for production backend services</li><li>Experience with time-series or event-driven data stores (InfluxDB, TimescaleDB, Timestream, or similar)</li><li>Infrastructure-as-code proficiency (Terraform preferred) and CI/CD pipeline experience</li><li>Experience designing APIs with authentication and access control</li></ul><h2>Nice to Have</h2><ul><li>Stream processing alongside batch pipelines (Kinesis, Kafka)</li><li>Mutual TLS and certificate-based device authentication at scale</li><li>Experience with SOC 2 or utility-sector data governance</li><li>Background in energy or grid-adjacent software</li></ul>
