We are looking for an entrepreneurial, self-starting Business Development Director to lead our commercial efforts on the ground and build the customer relationships that will anchor our growth across the country. This is a pioneering role with the mandate — and the autonomy — to define Peak Energy's presence in Australia. The successful candidate will bring an established network across the Australian energy sector — utilities, independent power producers (IPPs), commercial and industrial buyers of power and energy, and other key industry stakeholders — and translate those relationships into a pipeline of high-impact projects. You will drive revenue growth by securing new customers, structuring strategic partnerships, and positioning Peak Energy as the trusted partner for the next era of grid-scale storage in Australia.  Responsibilities <ul><li>Develop and execute a market entry and growth strategy for Peak Energy in Australia, including target customer segmentation, competitive positioning, and go-to-market planning. </li></ul><ul><li>Stand up Peak Energy's commercial presence in Australia from a blank slate — building pipeline, processes, and local commercial infrastructure with minimal in-country support in the early phase. </li></ul><ul><li>Lead business development across Australia, owning the pipeline of utility, IPP, commercial, industrial, and government customers from first contact through contract close. </li></ul><ul><li>Identify, engage, and build long-term relationships with key decision-makers across energy procurement, sustainability, operations, and C-suite functions at target organizations — as well as with the brokers, consultants, and intermediaries who serve large Australian energy buyers. </li></ul><ul><li>Structure, negotiate, and close complex commercial arrangements — battery supply agreements, tolling and capacity contracts, long-term service agreements, and co-development structures with Australian developers and offtakers. </li></ul><ul><li>Manage and deepen Peak Energy's strategic partnerships in-country — including with integrators, developers, and EPC partners — to accelerate market entry and de-risk early projects. </li></ul><ul><li>Build and steward relationships with federal and state government stakeholders, including ARENA, CEFC, state energy ministries, and procurement bodies, to align Peak Energy with Australian energy transition priorities. </li></ul><ul><li>Translate the NEM, state-level renewable programs, the Capacity Investment Scheme, and emerging grid dynamics into commercial positioning and deal structures that win in Australia. </li></ul><ul><li>Partner with internal commercial, finance, and engineering teams to develop commercially compelling, locally compliant battery storage solutions. </li></ul><ul><li>Represent Peak Energy at Australian industry events, trade associations, and relevant forums to build brand recognition and market credibility. </li></ul><ul><li>Provide regular market intelligence and pipeline reporting to Peak Energy's global leadership team. </li><li>Meet and exceed revenue, contract volume, and customer acquisition targets for the Australian market. </li></ul>Minimum Qualifications: <ul><li>8+ years of business development, sales, or commercial origination experience, with substantial experience in the Australian energy sector.  </li></ul><ul><li>Strong understanding of the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM), state-based renewable energy programs, the Capacity Investment Scheme (CIS), and the evolving regulatory landscape.  </li></ul><ul><li>Established network across the Australian energy ecosystem — including utilities, IPPs, commercial and industrial buyers (data centers, large industrials, miners), developers, integrators, and EPC partners — along with working relationships across federal and state government and agency stakeholders (e.g., ARENA, CEFC, state energy ministries).  </li></ul><ul><li>Proven track record of closing complex, long-term commercial agreements with Australian energy buyers — including battery supply agreements, tolling and capacity contracts, equipment supply contracts, or PPAs in co-development contexts.  </li></ul><ul><li>Demonstrated ability to work entrepreneurially — building pipeline and market presence with limited local infrastructure support in the early phases.  </li></ul><ul><li>Excellent commercial negotiation skills, with experience structuring bespoke battery storage and energy services arrangements in the Australian market.  </li></ul><ul><li>Strong communication and presentation skills; confident engaging with technical experts, C-suite executives, and government officials.  </li><li>Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Commerce, or a related discipline. </li></ul>Preferred Qualifications <ul><li>Named-account history with one or more of the Australian utilities or top-tier IPPs (e.g., AGL, Origin, EnergyAustralia, Snowy Hydro, Acen, Tilt Renewables) — i.e., relationships that go beyond introductions and into deal-making.  </li></ul><ul><li>Experience with grid-scale storage procurement in Australia, behind-the-meter and embedded-generation solutions, or renewable energy certificate (LGC/STC) markets.  </li></ul><ul><li>Hands-on experience with a successful CIS tender, large-scale storage RFP, or other competitive Australian storage procurement process — either as bidder, advisor, or buyer-side.  </li></ul><ul><li>Experience working with or within an international energy company entering the Australian market.  </li></ul><ul><li>Prior experience standing up the commercial function for a foreign energy company entering Australia — or playing a comparable early-employee role in a new market launch.  </li></ul><ul><li>MBA or postgraduate qualification in a relevant field.  </li></ul><ul><li>Familiarity with AEMO connection processes, grid registration requirements, and ancillary services markets (FCAS) as they apply to grid-scale storage assets. </li></ul>  The salary range for this role is AUS $230,000- $280,000, with actual pay varying based on work location, experience, and skills.
