*Position can be filled in any location within assigned territory in Northern Indiana*

Position Summary:

The Business Development Sales Manager sells value added outdoor lighting services to governmental, commercial, institutional and industrial customers. These services include outdoor lighting, and associated monitoring and control technology. This position requires a customer sensitive, team-oriented person with a high level of proven technical and business expertise in solving customers issues and leading internal and external resources to support this effort. This position will report the Manager of Outdoor Lighting and will interface with internal stakeholders that include LAM, CRM, Marketing, Engineering, Operations.  Main duties will include engaging governmental, commercial, industrial and residential developers' customers face to face.

Major Accountabilities/Essential Duties:

  • Sells outdoor lighting services to solve business and customer needs while

  • developing and strengthening relationships with customers

  • Ensures business goals and objectives are accomplished through effective

  • negotiations, communication, and work monitoring.

  • Prepares thorough and accurate proposal/contract documentation related to any

  • business development initiative.

  • Develops positive working relationships using effective oral and written

  • communication skills while representing the company in a positive and professional

  • manner.

  • Strives to continually improve outdoor lighting business development processes,

  • procedures and performance.

Relations with Others:

External

  • This position will interface with Residential, Industrial and Commercial Developers as well as city officials.

Internal

  • This position will report to the Manager of Products and Services, and will interface with Marketing leadership, Business Relations leadership, and Operations.

Basic Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Finance, Engineering, Marketing or any other related degree

  • 2+ years of related work experience.

  • OR Highschool Diploma/GED and 9+ years of related experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • 6+ years relevant work experience with a bachelor’s degree in engineering or business.

  • 8+ years relevant work experience with an associate’s degree or 12+ plus years relevant work experience without a degree.

  • MBA, Professional Engineer, Certified Energy Manager, LC (Lighting Certification).

  • Commercial mindset that can assess and resolve customer issues with innovative options based on customer cost guidelines and quality standards. 

  • Experience in outdoor lighting designs and products.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software tools. 

  • Proven project management skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to learn new systems.

  • Experience successfully working in a team environment to achieve shared goals.

  • Experience working in utility regulatory environment

  • Comprehensive financial and business acumen

  • Analytics capability/ proven ability to analyze market and financial data and research to develop successful customer and product strategies and plans, e.g., market research, market strategy, competitive intelligence, product management, Project development

  • Facility management, product management, program management, energy management, project management or process management experience. 

  • Demonstrated experience in change management, process integration and implementation and supervisory or management experience

  • Business operation experience  

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills including communications skills, presentation skills, conflict resolution and management skills, excellent leadership skills and good facilitation skills at all levels, both internally and externally to Duke Energy

Working Conditions

  • Normal office environment with some travel, including overnight travel and site visits.

  • Long periods of sitting and extended use of computer and telephone/cell phone or other PDA device.  

  • Some positions may be on call 24/7 as normal work dictates; all positions are on call 24/7 during storm.

  • Hybrid – Work will be performed from both remote and onsite locations after the onboarding period. However, hybrid employees should live within a reasonable commute to their designated Duke Energy facility.
