We’re Hiring for a Sr. Project Manager!  

THE ROLE: This position will serve as a senior level engineering project manager for the new product development within YSI’s R&D department.  Products can encompass environmental monitoring and water quality instrumentation and software, as well as life sciences biochemical analysis.  Contributions directly impact the success of all product lines and systems introduced by YSI. This role reports directly to the Director of R&D, YSI.

Job Specifications and Work Performed:

  • Manages projects through a Xylem Product Development (XPD) stage-gate process, from ideation through production launch and year 1 retrospective.  Maintains and is accountable for XPD gate deliverables and presentation to senior leadership team stakeholders for approvals and gate clearances.
  • Accountable for the project team’s introduction of product items, components, BOMs and other controlled documentation into YSI business systems for production intent.
  • Role will have no direct reports.  Individuals contributing to the project are assigned by each department lead.
  • Works closely with cross-functional assigned project resources from our New Product Development (NPD) engineering team, Sciences team, and Services team within R&D.
  • Works closely with cross-departmental teams such as Marketing/Product Management, Finance, Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, and Procurement teams.
  • Completes projects that meet budget, customer requirements, schedules, product cost, and regulatory certifications.
  • Provides regular updates to management on progress and provides mitigating solutions to risks or delays.
  • Ensures that all development and design work is thoroughly documented and organized for future reference.
  • Utilizes modern tools to plan project timelines, tasks, milestones, and deadlines, as well as familiarity with ERP systems such as Oracle or SAP. 
  • Plans and facilitates communication between stakeholders with project meetings to align the project.  Prepares agendas, meeting notes, and project summaries.
  • Contributes to the continuous improvement of YSI project management standard processes, documentation and training.
  • Contributor to technical feasibility studies/analysis, cost-benefit analysis, and recommends engineering solutions.

Experience & Academic Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or relative technical field with 5 years of engineering experience working to bring physical products from ideation to mass production/assembly line.
  • Experience in Project Management. 
  • Project Management certifications are a plus.
  • Project Management of software projects is a plus.

Key Skills and Attributes:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to articulate very technical concepts to non-technical team members.
  • Ability to work with a cross-functional team.
  • Ability to work in a product development team environment.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Requires minimal direction.

Working Condition:

  • Role requires On-Site (Yellow Springs, Ohio) 1 – 2 days per week.
  • General office environment.
  • 40 hours/week minimum Monday through Friday.
  • 5% travel.

  • Standard weekly job hours: 40 hours

The estimated salary range for this position is $100,000-125,000 plus bonus. Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience and work location, and is not typically at the top of the range.

Salary range:

$86,700.00 - $156,100.00
