About the Job
About the Role
- As an Electrical Engineering Technician based out of our Fort Lupton facility, you’ll be responsible for implementing designs, troubleshooting, and debugging controls and electrical systems put in place to operate our pyrolysis and biomass processing equipment.
- This role involves implementing and wiring control cabinets (480V and below), selecting motor controllers, VFDs, industrial sensors, powering PLC systems, constructing cables, and designing simple AC circuits for powering our biomass processing and pyrolysis equipment. You will also be tasked with implementing new sensors or systems that we find necessary to improve the functionality of our existing equipment, or troubleshoot when our equipment is not performing properly. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure proper functionality. This role will report to the Director of Operations Engineering based out of Fort Lupton. There will be regular meetings across the operations and new design teams operating in Colorado as you help build new cabinet designs and wiring harnesses for new R&D equipment, and flex to support active production machines.
- Someone successful in this role will enjoy bringing new designs to life through collaboration with design engineers and helping to test and commission this new equipment. This person also loves to solve puzzles of why equipment is not working properly, and will not want to stop until the puzzle is resolved. This person will take pride in ensuring that the systems are online and operational for our operations team, and assist immediately in problem solving when the machines go down. A great attitude in the face of difficult and fast-paced environments is a must!
Responsibilities:
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues: Identify and troubleshoot control system malfunctions, sensor inaccuracies, and communication problems, implement corrective measures, and perform system testing to ensure optimal performance.
- Select motor controllers, VFDs, and industrial sensors: Evaluate motor control requirements and process variables, specify suitable motor controllers, VFDs, and industrial sensors (e.g., pressure transducers, thermocouples, gas flowmeters, level sensors, scales, and strain gauges), and integrate them into the overall system design.
- Design and construct cables: Design cable assemblies, specify cable types, connectors, and wiring schemes, and build cables for the automation control systems, considering sensor connections and communication requirements.
- Design basic AC circuits: Develop electrical circuit designs for high-power systems, ensuring compliance with safety regulations and industry standards, while considering sensor integration and power requirements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams: Work closely with mechanical engineers, software developers, and other electrical engineers to implement control systems, motor controllers, VFDs, and industrial sensors into larger projects.
Requirements:
- 5+ years as a professional electrician or electrical engineering technician in residential and/or commercial construction, aerospace, automotive, oil & gas, or other relevant industry
- Excitement about getting opportunities to build rapid prototypes, get your hands dirty and teaching others by working side-by-side with a cross functional team
- Experience in implementing electrical schematics and constructing control cabinet and cable assemblies.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot control system and sensor-related issues
- Must be physically able to climb ladders, bend, or crawl in awkward spaces
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time
- Have a proactive, professional and “can do” attitude
- Passionate about contributing to our mission and growing the company
Bonus (but not required):
- Familiarity with programming languages for PLC systems, such as ladder logic or structured text
- Understanding of automation control systems, motor control principles, electrical circuit design, and industrial sensors
- Proficiency in selecting motor controllers, VFDs, and industrial sensors based on project requirements
- Knowledge of safety regulations and standards related to high-power systems
- Experience operating near high power equipment (high voltage, large horsepower motors, high force actuators …etc)
- Direct experience in the handling of high temperature or combustible materials in an industrial automation environment
- Direct experience with equipment like conveyors, wood chippers, tractors, harvesting equipment, screening, drying systems, industrial heat exchangers or other large heavy-duty industrial or agricultural equipment

Our mission is to reverse climate change and return the atmosphere to 280 ppm CO₂. To pursue this challenge, we convert waste biomass into carbon-rich bio-oil and inject it into permanent, underground storage wells as a form of carbon removal, or reform it to produce green hydrogen and syngas for industrial processes like steel, cement, and chemicals manufacturing.

In 2020 and 2021, our carbon removal technology has gained traction with partners like Stripe, Shopify & Microsoft. In the next 18 months, we will deploy the latest and greatest version of our mobile pyrolysis plant, perform a pilot demonstration of our green syngas technology with a steel plant, substantially expand our commercial operations in the Midwest and put more than 1,000 tonnes of CO₂e underground.
