About the Role
Kevala is looking for a highly motivated and skilled Senior Data Engineer to lead the design, development, and optimization of our data infrastructure. This role requires deep expertise in cloud data engineering, data modeling, and workflow automation using tools like Python, Airflow, dbt, and BigQuery. The ideal candidate will also be familiar with data warehousing, data governance, and electric utility data and distribution infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Architect, build, and optimize large-scale data pipelines to support analytics and machine learning applications.
Lead the design and implementation of data models that improve performance, scalability, and data accuracy and integrity.
Act as a technical mentor, guiding Data Engineers in best practices and architecture decisions.
Implement ETL/ELT pipelines using tools such as Python, Airflow, and dbt.
Manage data governance, security, and compliance across cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure).
Collaborate with stakeholders across executive, product, data scientists, and business teams to define data needs and ensure alignment with company objectives.
Optimize query performance in BigQuery and other data warehouse solutions.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
4+ years of experience in data engineering with expertise in cloud data platforms.
Deep knowledge of Python, Airflow, dbt, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), and BigQuery.
Proven experience designing and managing scalable, high-performance data architectures.
Expertise in data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and workflow orchestration.
Strong understanding of data security, governance, and compliance best practices.
Experience with electric utility data and electric power distribution infrastructure.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication and leadership skills.
Location
Kevala is headquartered in San Francisco, but we embrace the virtual office and are continuing to grow our team across the United States.
Compensation
The total compensation for this opportunity includes a base salary range of $140,000 - $180,000 plus equity (stock options). This is our target compensation range and is subject to multiple factors including level, experience, and location. As you go through our interview process, our recruiter will work with you to identify a competitive base salary within the proposed range and combine it with an equity package that will support your excitement in joining Kevala.
