About the Job
Our mission
At Vertical Aerospace, we are pioneering the way for electric aviation. The VX4, our eVTOL (electric, vertical, take-off and landing), ‘zero emissions’ aircraft will set a new safety standard for how we will navigate the sky.
We won’t realise our mission following the same legacy processes and traditions our predecessors followed, instead, we want to ‘redefine’ aerospace best practices.
We are growing quickly from a prototype business to a scaling SME, and the next few years will be critical to our success and delivering on our ambitious goals of having the VX4 in service by 2030.
What to Expect
We’re building a world-class team to shape the future of sustainable aviation. As a Data Engineer, you’ll be part of a passionate and diverse group of innovators - ranging from aerospace experts to leading technologists, all committed to developing solutions that positively impact society and the planet.
You’ll play a key role in enabling data-driven decision-making across the business. You’ll be responsible for building and maintaining robust, scalable data pipelines that ensure our teams have access to timely, high-quality data. Working closely with BI, analytics, and engineering teams, you’ll help shape the foundations of our data infrastructure using modern tools like Airflow, Snowflake, and Python.
What You’ll Do
Develop and maintain data pipelines and system integrations using Airflow and Snowflake.
Work closely with the BI/Analytics team to ensure accurate, timely data is available for reporting and analysis.
Contribute to the design and implementation of ETL processes that power data-driven decision-making.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues affecting pipeline performance and data quality.
Continuously optimize data pipelines for improved efficiency and scalability.
Ensure that data flows meet business requirements and adhere to best practices in security and governance.
Schedule, monitor, and maintain automated workflows.
Support data migration efforts and optimize data system performance.
Document workflows and processes to support transparency, scalability, and team knowledge-sharing.
What You’ll Bring
A degree in Computer Science, a related STEM field, or equivalent practical experience.
Proficiency in SQL for querying and data manipulation.
Experience using Python to write scripts for data processing.
The ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a close-knit team environment.
A strong problem-solving mindset and a keen desire to learn and grow.
Effective communication skills to work cross-functionally.
Desirable:
Experience working with data pipelines and integration tools.
Familiarity with Azure cloud services.
Knowledge of Snowflake for data warehousing.
Experience using Airflow for workflow orchestration.
Understanding of data warehousing principles and best practices.
Exposure to version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD workflows.
