Labourer

A General Laborer is responsible for safely and efficiently performing general labor duties at a hauling company, transfer station, materials recycling facility (MRF) or landfill. Responsibilities may include such things as yard clean-up, fueling vehicles and equipment, general vehicle operation, general office maintenance and other related duties. 

 

•   *This is a 1 month, temporary role with the potential to become permanent*

• Key Responsibilities: 

  • Pick up litter around the landfill 

  • Fuel vehicles and equipment. 

  • Clean tracks and related equipment on track-type machinery. 

  • Perform yard work, such as mowing and yard trimming. 

  • Perform snow removal, including shoveling and snowblowing. 

  • Operate general site vehicles and equipment, including water trucks, pickup trucks, mowers, and trimming equipment. 

  • Conduct general office maintenance and repairs. 

  • Direct traffic on-site when necessary. 

  • Perform other duties as required or requested by management. 

  • Adhere to company safety policies and federal, state, and local safety regulations. 

   

  Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required. 

  • Must meet safety-sensitive criteria in accordance with company standards. 

  Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Ability to read, write, perform basic math, and communicate effectively. 

  • Ability to follow instructions and work with limited supervision. 

  • Capable of operating necessary equipment for the job. 

  • Ability to solve common problems using common sense. 

  Physical/Mental Demands: 

  • Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, and lift in an outdoor environment for 90% of the time. 

  • Frequent use of hands and fingers, climbing, and balancing. 

  • Must have good visual acuity (close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustments). 

  • Ability to lift/move up to 65 pounds regularly and push/move up to 100 pounds with assistance. 

  Working Conditions: 

  • Frequent exposure to loud noise, humidity, extreme weather (hot/cold), and hazardous conditions (e.g., moving mechanical parts, vibrations, chemicals, fumes, airborne particles). 

  • Work is primarily outdoors (up to 100% of the time). 

  • Occasional work at heights or in precarious places. 

  • Regular exposure to motor vehicle traffic conditions. 

  • Work environment is typically loud.
