About the Job
Climate change is real and we need to act fast. Our purpose is to restore the carbon balance in our atmosphere. We believe it’s important to have a positive impact on society, the economy, and the climate. Are you ready to join us on our mission? 🌎
Role
Unfortunately, our beloved team member Ben (who’s with us for 3 years, so a true Carbyon-veteran!) decided to leave us as he and his girlfriend will emigrate to Norway. This means we’re looking for a talented Mechanical Engineer eager to join our engineering team. But be aware, this is not just a regular mechanical engineering role. If you’re looking for a role in which you’ll solely do CAD design; do not (!) read further.
Here's why; the engineering team at Carbyon is still relatively small. This comes with the unique opportunity to have a broadly oriented role. One moment you’ll drive the development of our next product by working on detailed design based upon given requirements (e.g. costs, manufacturability), while the other moment you’ll help out on upgrading one of our prototypes by working hands-on (heavy tooling doesn’t have any surprises for you).
While the project(s) you’ll work on vary over time, we can guarantee a broadly oriented role that comes with concepting, working on designs as well as literally rolling up your sleeves to build either new prototypes or upgrade/maintain our existing ones.
Do you consider yourself a jack of all mechanical trades? Then dive into your responsibilities!
Responsibilities
Turning high-level requirements into decent concepts, to eventually translate those concepts into practical design.
Mechanically challenge physics and/or mechatronics driven concepts.
Regularly support hands-on;
Bringing designs to life by (rapidly) building prototypes.
Systematically trouble shoot issues that occur in our current prototypes.
Act as a machine owner whenever our current prototypes will be upgraded.
Design of verification tests to close the engineering cycle, including punctually logging the outcome of those verification tests (while you don’t run the verification tests yourself).
Why join us?
We are a purpose-driven team of international engineers, researchers, and business professionals. We do not get easily discouraged and we join forces to ensure our dream comes true. At the heart of it all, there are people inspired by our purpose: reversing climate change!
We offer you to
Make a real difference in one of the biggest challenges of our time - reversing climate change.
Become an integral part of our fun, diverse and growing multicultural team.
Experience the dynamic and exciting environment of a startup - where there is never a dull moment.
Take ownership and actively participate in the decision-making process.
Share and implement your own ideas - we believe the best ideas can come from anywhere.
Enjoy flexible working hours and the freedom to manage your work effectively - we trust you.
Join the daily team walks at the inspiring High Tech Campus.
Engage in monthly team events and activities such as jeu de boules or barbecues, fostering a strong sense of community.
Our ideal candidate is someone who
Brings either a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
Has at least 3 years of industry experience thanks to which you got acquainted with (at least) the following;
You’ve been working on mechanical designs within a thermal and flow context. You’re able to look at your designs from multiple disciplines, and to challenge your physics- and mechatronics oriented team members.
You bring a solid understanding of tolerance studies.
You’ve been through the process of FMEA’s.
You love the idea of rapid prototyping rather than old-fashioned product creation processes.
Brings solid hands-on engineering skills (in you free time you’re a hardcore DIY’er)
Thrives in a dynamic and collaborative team environment, demonstrating a proactive and adaptable mindset.
Enthusiastically embraces our startup's mission and values, energized to contribute to our innovative and impactful journey.
Lives within commuting distance from Eindhoven or is open to relocating - because that’s where our magic happens!
We are Carbyon. We Capture the Sky ⭐💫
At Carbyon, we envision a future where fossil carbon is entirely replaced by atmospheric carbon. Our breakthrough technology enables extreme energy efficiency and low manufacturing costs, paving the way for a globally scalable solution. We value diversity and actively promote an inclusive culture where every employee feels valued and supported. We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and experiences, as we believe our diversified expertise is one of our strengths.
