Job Summary
Repsol Renewables North America (RRSNA) is seeking a Director, Tax to lead tax strategy, compliance, and planning for the North America Renewables business. The Tax Director will collaborate closely with finance, legal, and project development teams to provide tax advisory for transactions, project structuring, and M&A and financing activities, while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations. This position will report to the CFO in the Finance team.
The position is based in Downtown Houston with a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office and 2 days from home.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead coordination with advisors on preparation, review, and filing of federal, state, and local tax returns, including partnership, corporate, and indirect tax filings.
- Provide tax structuring advice on project financing, joint ventures, tax equity partnerships, M&A, and divestitures.
- Manage all tax-related aspects of financial reporting, including compliance and tax provision processes.
- Assess, streamline, and standardize tax processes, controls, and systems.
- Technical tax research and analysis for special initiatives (property tax amendment, IRB, etc.)
- Tax planning and modeling to understand and evaluate the taxable base of the US business to advise on optimally structuring future projects
- Monitor legislative and regulatory changes in U.S. federal and state tax laws affecting the renewable energy sector and assess impacts on the business.
- Assist in implementing and maintaining transfer pricing policies.
- Partner with internal teams to ensure tax compliance within contract negotiations, project bids, and transaction documentation.
- Lead, coach, and develop the tax team and manage external tax resources.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Prior work experience in the renewables sector and/or tax equity with understanding of renewable energy tax credits (ITC, PTC, 45Q, etc.), partnership taxation, and tax equity structures is strongly preferred.
- Strong analytical and modeling skills.
- Ability to multitask and remain flexible in a fast and dynamic work environment.
- Experience with contract review and interpretation, especially in the context of tax matters.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Ability to work effectively with international counterparts.
- SAP experience preferred
- Must be authorized to work in the US for any US employer
Education/Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA and/or Master’s in Taxation preferred.
- 10+ years of relevant tax experience, preferably with a mix of Big 4/public accounting and in-house corporate tax roles.
