About the Role

Bird is seeking an experienced and strategic Global Compensation & Equity Manager to lead the development and execution of our global compensation and equity strategy. Reporting to the VP, People, this role will oversee all aspects of global compensation and equity programs—ensuring they are competitive, equitable, scalable, and aligned with Bird’s values and growth.

This leader will play a key role in refining and delivering compelling global compensation and equity programs that attract, motivate, and retain top talent. The ideal candidate is a data-driven expert in global compensation and equity who can balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution, and who brings both rigor and a global perspective to how we reward our people.

You will possess a strong understanding of international compensation practices, equity administration, and the ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution, while maintaining a commitment to fairness and transparency in how we reward our global team.

Reporting Relationship: The role reports to the Vice President, People, who reports to the CEO.

Team Overview: 

This role will lead and have direct oversight of Global Compensation and Equity across Bird, collaborating closely with regional People teams in North America and EMEA.

    • Total Rewards Consultant for scoped strategic initiatives 

Key Responsibilities

1. Compensation & Equity Strategy 

  • Design, develop, and lead Bird’s Compensation & Equity strategy and programs, to effectively support global talent attraction, motivation, and retention.
  • Ensure global compensation and equity programs are strategically aligned with business goals, our People-first culture, and local market practices.
  • Partner closely with Finance, Legal, and global business leaders to ensure strategic alignment, budgetary compliance, and a globally consistent yet locally relevant approach to compensation and equity.
  • Serve as the primary subject matter expert and strategic advisor to the VP, People and Executive team on all global compensation and equity matters.

2. Compensation & Pay Programs

  • Lead global compensation initiatives including market mapping, job architecture, and benchmarking for new and evolving roles using tools like Radford, Pave, and internal benchmarking frameworks.
  • Own and drive the compensation process for Bird’s Annual Performance Review Cycle (Bird Performance Review / BPR), including merit and promotion planning, in partnership with Finance and People Business Partners.
  • Manage salary bands, job leveling, and internal pay equity reviews, ensuring a scalable and transparent approach to compensation.
  • Partner with Finance and Legal to ensure all programs meet local compliance requirements and align with Bird’s compensation philosophy.
  • Leverage systems such as BambooHR (HRIS), Radford, Pave, Google Suite, Zendesk, and Greenhouse to support workflow, decision-making, and documentation.

3. Equity Strategy & Administration

  • Own the end-to-end administration and strategy of compensation, & equity programs, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and alignment with business goals.
  • Lead equity planning cycles, including refreshes and off-cycle grants, and partner with Legal and Finance on program design and execution.
  • Build tools, documentation, and employee education materials to increase understanding and transparency of programs across levels.
  • Support executive compensation planning and Board-level reporting on total rewards and equity strategy.

4. Collaboration on Global Benefits, Perks & Wellness:

  • Work closely with the Global Benefits & Wellness Manager to ensure the overall global total rewards strategy is cohesive and competitive.
  • Partner with the Global Benefits & Wellness Manager to understand the global landscape of benefits, perks, and wellness programs and provide input on strategic direction where compensation and benefits intersect.
  • Collaborate on initiatives and projects that require integration across compensation, equity, benefits, and wellness to ensure a seamless employee experience.
  • Support the Global Benefits & Wellness Manager with data and insights related to the impact of benefits and wellness programs on attraction and retention.
5.  Insights, Governance & Compliance
  • Use data and analytics to monitor the effectiveness of rewards programs and make recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, policies, and processes that ensure program governance, scalability, and compliance.
  • Support internal audits, due diligence, and compensation-related disclosures as needed.
  • Leverage the People Tech Stack to support program design, execution, analytics, and employee experience, including:
  • HRIS & People Systems: BambooHR, ADP, Ceridian Dayforce
  • Compensation & Benchmarking: Radford, Pave
  • Recruiting & Performance: Greenhouse, Lattice
  • Service & Knowledge Management: Zendesk, Confluence
  • Collaboration & Analytics: Google Suite (Sheets, Slides, Docs), custom dashboards and reporting tools
6. Team Leadership & Collaboration
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with Finance, Legal, Talent Acquisition, and People Business Partners.
  • Act as a thought partner and internal consultant to People team colleagues and business leaders across the organization.

What You Bring:

  • REQUIRED: 10+ years of progressive experience in Global Compensation and Equity, encompassing the design, implementation, and management of global compensation frameworks and equity plans, with experience collaborating on global benefits and wellness strategies. 
  • REQUIRED: Proven experience working in both large-scale public companies and smaller-scale start-up private environments with international expansion. 
  • Deep expertise in global compensation strategy, international salary benchmarking methodologies, global pay equity principles, and a strong understanding of global benefits and wellness trends.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting diverse international populations and successfully operating in a remote-first, fast-paced, high-growth global environment. 
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills with the ability to interpret global data, present clear insights, and effectively influence executive stakeholders on global compensation and equity strategies. 
  • Hands-on experience with equity administration platforms and best practices in both private and/or public global companies. 
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of global employment and tax regulations that impact compensation. 
  • Exceptional global communication, interpersonal, and project management skills, with a strong passion for enhancing the global employee experience through effective rewards programs.
