About the Job

A software focused role responsible for the development of Allye's battery systems, integrating battery hardware and software for the MAX energy storage system. Lead R&D activities, battery diagnostics and prognostics and the EMS to control batteries, power electronics and related systems.

Lead the CAN control of embedded battery BMS, to support integration, testing and characterisation of repurposed EV battery packs. This includes developing the end-to-end procedure for battery assessment using remote diagnostics and advanced prognostics to determine SoH and SoU (state of usability). The role will lead the qualification of the battery to full integration and development of a unified CAN controller for multiple batteries from a range of manufacturers, SoH and chemistries.

Lead the development and integration of multiple embedded systems, including the BMS, CAN gateway, EMS, AC-DC bi-directional inverters, control and communications modules. As the overall lead, you will coordinate efforts across the team and suppliers to ensure our systems remains at the forefront of safety and performance while delivering full compliance to grid code regulations across a range of countries.

The role is a unique opportunity to lead development, testing and validation of battery system engineering within a rapidly growing and dynamic company. The ideal candidate will have a background in electrical engineering having gained significant experience in their career working on battery systems and integration of electrical architecture for electric vehicles. You will be hands-on and adept at developing new concepts as well as supporting the commissioning and troubleshooting of systems at customer premises.

Responsibilities

System engineering integration

  • Lead battery systems strategy and software engineering team to develop robust systems for the Allye MAX, developing new concepts, features and prototypes
  • Lead the development of the EMS for the control of multiple repurposed batteries including LV and HV control, power electronics and communications systems
  • Develop all embedded control system control of battery packs, to optimise for life, performance and safety across a different environmental and load conditions.
  • Integrate hardware and control systems to meet grid code regulations including G99/G100 in the UK and equivalents for a range of international countries
  • Complete DFMEAs, and design for functional safety to ISO26262, engineering systems for compliance with regulations, standards, and best practices

Battery system engineering

  • Lead repurposed EV battery pack characterisation and testing using remote diagnostics and advanced prognostics to characterise SoU (state of usability)
  • Develop the portable battery testing kit and back-end system to characterise all packs, iterating algorithm assessment to improve throughput
  • Development of a unified CAN controller for multiple battery packs from a range of sources, SoH and chemistries

Leadership

  • Lead control systems R&D to enhance systems and develop new features
  • Identify new technologies and potential IP, support patent applications
  • Build and manage high-performing engineering teams
  • Provide technical leadership to foster an environment for innovation and success
