About the Job

⚡About Amber

Amber is an entirely new way of thinking about buying, banking and selling energy – where home energy technology works to put money back in customers’ pockets and accelerate the renewable energy transition. Everything we build is about making that possible and putting traditional retailers in the shade.

We believe the cheapest, fastest and most rewarding way to reach 100% renewables is to automate the growing wave of home batteries and EVs. Customers get direct access to the real-time wholesale electricity price and the technology to shift energy usage to the times when cheaper renewables are available in the grid and export to the grid at times when the price they can be paid for it is highest.

We are backed by Australia’s leading VCs (including Square Peg Capital and Main Sequence Ventures), impact-focused investors and individuals, and most recently by Commonwealth Bank, NRMA and Gentrack.

We are growing rapidly and have thousands of customers who love what we are doing and a great product that will play a significant role in driving Australia and the world towards a renewable future.

We’re now at a critical moment in taking the business to real scale as we disrupt a huge market for the better. You’d be a part of a rapidly growing team of over 150, with expertise across energy, technology, marketing, and operations. We’re committed to building a diverse and inclusive workplace and a great culture of people who love coming to work to build a better world.

Amber for Batteries **unlocks more value for homeowners with batteries, driving down their energy bills and their payback periods. By storing energy when it’s cheap and exporting it to the grid for wholesale feed-in rates of up to $19/kWh, Amber’s software is completely changing the economics of home batteries and accelerating the energy transition.

Amber for EVs is our EV smart charging solution that helps EV owners save on their charging costs by using more cheap, renewable energy - whether that’s their own excess solar energy, or renewable energy that’s abundant in the grid. In 2025, we are kicking off development of our game-changing vehicle-to-grid technology.

💻 About the Role

Amber’s mission is to shift Australia and the world to 100% renewables. At Amber we believe that enabling a culture where everyone at Amber is set up to do the best work of their lives and feels connected and supported is one of the most important things we can do to ensure Amber’s long-term success.

Want to help improve the environment by shifting Australia and the world’s energy usage towards renewables?

As a Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for identifying, developing, and executing strategic partnerships and projects that create new opportunities for Amber. This includes collaborating with Amber’s product, engineering, marketing and operational teams to ensure the successful implementation of existing projects (e.g. EV ARENA grants), developing and maintaining relationships with strategic partners, and identifying and prioritizing new business opportunities for Amber.

👉🏽 Responsibilities

  • Identify and prioritise new prospective partners that can help Amber automate more home batteries, EVs and EV chargers including researching and analyzing the Australian energy, home battery, EV and smart home markets to identify strategic opportunities for Amber.
  • Build relationships with those partners, sell the Amber proposition and negotiate long-term partnership and project agreements.
  • Support the development and maintenance of strong relationships with battery, EV and EV charger OEMs, including securing access to their automation APIs.
  • Prioritising, developing and providing new channels to acquire EV customers (eg novated leasing companies, EV charger installers etc)
  • Develop a strong understanding of our products and effectively communicate their value, and its application to prospective partnerships.
  • Manage an up-to-date pipeline and communicate opportunities with supporting business functions.
  • Support the maintenance of strong relationships with key industry contacts, such as ARENA, SAPN, Ausgrid, Department of Energy & Mining, CSIRO etc.
  • Identifying and applying for Government grants that are aligned with Amber’s company goals, to help fund Amber’s mission (e.g.: State and Federal Gov grants, ARENA grants etc).
  • Identifying and enrolling Amber in key state and federal government initiatives to drive the uptake of home batteries and EVs (eg the SA Gov REPS Scheme, NSW Gov PDRS scheme etc).
  • Develop project scopes, objectives, plans, and budgets, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility.
  • Working cross-functionally with marketing, product, and customer ops teams to ensure alignment and effective execution of business development initiatives, and provide other teams with market intelligence and insights
  • Project management and coordination of internal resources and external partners/contractors to ensure the successful implementation and project management of existing projects (eg EV ARENA grants) - including tracking and measurement of project performance to ensure that projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget

🎯 Key Requirements

  • At Amber, we want to hire self-starters who are eager to learn and are comfortable working in a changing environment. Some of the key traits we are looking for in this role:
  • You have 3 - 5 years of experience in business development, sales, project management or a similar role within the energy or tech industry
  • You have a consistent record of successfully identifying and completing strategic partnerships and/or projects
