About the Job

Job description
We’re looking to hire a Climate Data Analyst for our Climate Science and Impacts Team. You will support, among others, the work of a project on Pacific resilience —Building Our Pacific Loss andDamage Response (BOLD Response)— which helps Pacific Island countries enhance their capacity to understand, model, and respond to long-term climate impacts. In this role, you will develop high-resolution, downscaled climate hazard projections, analyze adaptation limits, and model long-term risks from both extreme weather events and slow-onset climate processes. These insights will inform national responses and contribute to shaping effective loss and damage strategies for vulnerable island states.

Beyond this project, you will contribute to the work of Climate Analytics’ Climate Science and Impacts Team by providing analyses on climate impacts and inputs to assessing socio-economic implications in various regions ranging from developing countries to key emitters. You will contribute to tools like the Climate Impact Explorer (https://climate-impact-explorer.climateanalytics.org/) and diverse projects informing e.g. the financial sector about the costs of climate change.

Your Responsibilities
  • Work with large datasets and conduct statistical analyses for climate modeling
  • Analyze current and future climate scenarios for different emission pathways
  • Contribute to risk and vulnerability assessments across sectors (e.g. agriculture, water, urban systems)
  • Contribute to tools like the Climate Impact Explorer (https://climate-impact-explorer.climateanalytics.org/)
  • Contribute to assessments of the (socio-)economic implications of climate change
  • Design and manage databases with climate data, ensuring quality and consistency
  • Prepare technical and non-technical reports and contribute to scientific publications
  • Document methodologies and translate findings into policy-relevant outputs
  • Communicate results clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Provide training to partners on climate data tools and risk assessment
  • Adjust methods in response to emerging issues and stakeholder needs
  • Showing initiative by developing own ideas and contributing to proposal writing, networking and fundraising.
Your profile
Education and experience
  • A Master’s degree in Earth Sciences, Physics, Climate Science, Environmental Science, Data Science, or a related field
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in climate science research and data analysis or a related field.
  • Demonstrated expertise in handling complex climate datasets (e.g., netCDF, CMIP, CORDEX, ISIMIP) and conducting high-level research on climate change impacts, adaptation, and risk analysis.
  • Proven experience in working with climate and impact models or working with outputs of those models
  • Expertise in climate impact modeling for extreme events (e.g. floods, droughts, tropical cyclones, heat waves, wildfires). Experience in assessing economic damages from climate extremes e.g. using CLIMADA, or other forms of economic impact assessments would be an asset.
  • Experience in engaging with central banks, multilateral financial institutions or more generally the financial sector would be an asset.
  • Experience in conducting stress testing exercises or familiarity with these exercises would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with IPCC outputs and loss & damage frameworks is required.
  • Proven experience working in or with developing countries on climate change issues is an asset.

Skills
  • Proficiency in Python and R for data processing, statistical analysis, and tool development.
  • Advanced GIS and spatial analysis skills.
  • Experience in machine learning, predictive modeling, and integrating quantitative & qualitative data.
  • Java/HTML skills or other webtool programming skills as well as experience in developing web-tools would be an asset.
  • Strong motivation and ability to learn new skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for effective stakeholder engagement and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in teams.
  • Fluency in English is required
  • A commitment to the organization's mission and core values, demonstrating integrity and ethical conduct in all professional dealings
Our offer
  • A job with purpose. With us you will work in a team of highly engaged people and with your skills you can make a positive contribution to our work in the field of climate change.
  • We are a diverse and inclusive team and welcome your application regardless of your gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, ethnicity, age, neurodiversity, disability status, citizenship, or any other aspect that makes you unique. You will work in a transdisciplinary environment.
  • We are working in a positive and inspiring working atmosphere with an international team.
