Summary:

Hitachi’s R&D Center, located in Santa Clara, CA, serves as a pivotal technology hub to support Hitachi’s global Social Innovation business. Our focus spans original and applied research, technology innovation, intellectual property creation, and solving real-world challenges. We collaborate closely with Hitachi’s product and business divisions, contributing to Hitachi's IoT and AI business across a variety of industries, with a special focus on optimized manufacturing.

We are looking for a AI Applications Development Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will contribute to our Industrial Digital Transformation solution portfolio by developing and testing ML/AI applications. We are not looking for a specialist in a narrow domain but rather someone who understands a typical ML lifecycle and can move to various levels of stack such as serving side, application integration, data processing or experimenting with various components. You’ll get a chance to engage in real-world deployments in manufacturing facilities at scale. This position is a perfect match for a motivated programmer who is passionate about empowering society through the tremendous potential of Industrial IoT and AI.

Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the ongoing software development and testing of resilient and efficient AI/ML applications.

  • Collaborate within a cross-disciplinary team that includes software, network, sensing, and domain experts, building upon existing designs and architectures to add unique features and differentiators.

Qualifications:

  • An MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, accompanied by at least 2 years of experience in software development.

  • Experience in Machine Learning & Deep Learning libraries/frameworks such as PyTorch, Hugging Face, Numpy, Panda, Scikit-learn etc. are required.

  • Experience in one or more LLM Development & AI Orchestration frameworks such as LangChain, LlamaIndex is required.

  • Experience in one or more Vector Databases for RAG such as ChromaDB, Pinecone, LanceDB etc. is required.

  • Experience in deploying LLMs using frameworks such as vLLM, Ollama, or ONNX for optimized inference is required.

  • Experience with Docker and container management tools like Kubernetes is required.

  • Strong skills in Linux and shell scripting are required.

  • Experience with version control and CI/CD pipelines such as Git are required.

  • Experience in big data and distributed computing such as Apache Spark (PySpark), Dask etc. is a plus.

  • Experience in cloud platforms and cloud-native services, particularly in AWS or Azure, is a plus.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

For California only (as required by California’s Pay Transparency for Pay Equity Act (SB 1162): The expected salary for this position in our California office is $77,732 - $97,165 . Pay is determined based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, depth of experience in the practice area. Employees are eligible to participate in Hitachi America’s variable pay program, subject to the program’s conditions and restrictions.
