OVERVIEW: The Electronics Lab Manager uses advanced skills and tools along with extensive working knowledge of defined standard operating procedures to complete assignments. They will oversee the coordination and execution of the procurement, assembly, installation and quality control of electrical/electronic related components, systems, and vehicle builds.

They use their experience to determine the best methods and develop new work processes. The Electronics Lab Manager will provide the direct supervision of 5-8 technicians to execute customer projects. You will support the development of prototype and concept vehicles, with a strong focus on vehicle electrification, autonomous vehicles, and unmanned vehicle platforms.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND SKILLS:  Typical responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Provide oversight and direction to Elab team members, maintain work schedules, project assignments, and training.
  • Plan staffing levels, recruit, and hire Elab technicians.
  • Plan, implement and maintain required Elab workspace and infrastructure needs.
  • Coach, mentor and develop staff, provide career planning and development.
  • Empower team members to achieve objectives and assure accountability.
  • Lead employees to meet objectives for productivity and quality.
  • Plan and manage Elab budget and procurement process to meet financial objectives.
  • Create, maintain, and improve lab processes and procedures.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: In addition to the responsibilities mentioned above, tasks relating to the following area will be assigned as required.

  • Education / training.
  • Provide feedback on product needs and processes.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on various Electronics Lab work products.
  • Troubleshoot electrical systems.
  • Work in small groups to develop solutions to engineering problems.
  • Apply knowledge of electrical theory and concepts.
  • Create wiring diagrams and wire harness manufacturing drawings.
  • Interaction with current and potential customers regarding Pratt Miller systems.
  • Understand and follow IPC 620C wire harness build processes.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams). 
  • Be both a team player and team leader.
  • Have great attention to detail, dependability, pride in work, initiative.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have a high level of organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop teams.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION/YEARS OF EXPERIENCE:

  • High school diploma.
  • 10+ years of electronic component build, test, or repair experience.

DESIRED SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

  • Associate degree in technical program.
  • High voltage system safety experience.
  • General knowledge of automotive systems (steering, brakes, powertrain, lighting, etc.).
  • Ability to read electrical schematics.
  • Knowledge of electrical testing methods and equipment.
  • Ability to use common electronics hand tools and test equipment.
  • Must be able to identify color-coded wires and ID labels.
  • Ability to work on vehicles and equipment, including on top of, underneath, and confined spaces.
  • Understanding of vehicle communication networks (CAN, LIN, ethernet, etc.).
  • Understanding of embedded control systems and components.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Position requires occasional or frequent moderate physical activity.
     

EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:

  • Daytime schedule Monday – Friday with infrequent night/weekend work to achieve deadlines.
  • Minimal travel as required for on-site customer work.

Pay Range:

$102,800.00 - $176,800.00

The above pay range reflects the minimum and maximum target pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Within this range, individual pay is determined by various factors, including the scope and responsibilities of the role, the candidate's experience, education and skills, as well as the equity of pay among team members in similar positions.
