About Osmoses

Osmoses Inc. is a technology company revolutionizing the way industrial separations are performed today! Industrial separation processes account for 15% of the world’s energy consumption and are responsible for 16% of CO2 emissions because we rely on energy-intensive technology. Changing this is one of the biggest opportunities to enable the energy transition.

We bring together a diverse and dynamic group of scientists, engineers, business professionals, and operators to develop and commercialize cutting-edge membrane technology that can reduce the impact of gas separations on the environment while increasing the economic incentive for our customers. Our groundbreaking separation solutions have the power to disrupt multi-billion dollar markets worldwide, reducing industrial energy consumption and accelerate the adoption of alternative energy sources with lower environmental impact.

Join us! Together, we can create a future where cleaner and more sustainable industrial processes become the norm.

Position Overview

Osmoses is seeking a highly motivated Chemistry Intern to join its chemistry team. In this position, you will work closely with all members of the team, who hold a wide range of expertise and experience. This is a laboratory position focused on polymer synthesis for use in Osmoses membrane products. You will collaborate with the team to develop novel materials, optimize reaction chemistry using fundamental techniques, and scale the production of materials to meet the demands of a rapidly growing business. Successful candidates will be highly driven and comfortable with a great degree of independence, and hold an interest in small-molecule and polymer synthesis.

What you’ll be doing

The Chemistry Intern will be responsible for completing highly independent research under the supervision and mentorship of the Chemistry team. The responsibilities of the Chemistry Intern may include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of chemists, chemical engineers, and material scientists to design novel polymers for membrane materials.

  • Carry out organic synthesis experiments for new materials and routine in-house production.

  • Analyze reaction outcomes and product mixtures to inform direction of research.

  • Work with the chemistry team to scale up reactions in a rapidly growing enterprise.

  • Maintain detailed laboratory records and present results in weekly meetings.

  • Provide input and opinions in group meetings.

  • Support development of SOP’s and materials for internal R&D use.

What we’re looking for

A qualified candidate must have the following:

  • Chemistry, chemical engineering, or biochemistry student with experience in organic chemistry, including through laboratory coursework.

  • Self-starter and ability to work in a creative, ambiguous, and fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and analytical skills.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Experience in a laboratory environment

What we’d prefer to see

A successful candidate would have some (but not necessarily all) of the following:

  • Experience with analytical techniques such as thin-layer chromatography, NMR, GC/MS, and LC/MS.

  • Practical knowledge of organic synthetic techniques

  • Previous experience in polymer research

  • Previous experience with membrane technologies

  • Interest in clean technology and industrial decarbonization

What we can offer you

  • Opportunity to contribute to addressing one of the biggest environmental challenges of this century.

  • Work in the heart of the most innovative square mile in the world and the most exciting hub for clean tech.

  • Great potential for leadership and independence joining a company with strong momentum.

  • Chance to connect with leaders in the energy and clean technology fields.

  • Excellent mentorship and career development opportunity.
