Job DescriptionReporting directly to the Vice President, Taxation, the Director of Tax will be a key leader responsible for managing the Canadian tax compliance, provision and audit defence obligations for a multi-billion-dollar global real estate business. This is a hands-on role that will work closely with external service providers and internal Finance, Treasury, and Legal teams to meet objectives. The Director of Tax will be part of a large team overseeing complex transactions and legal structures, providing an excellent opportunity for career development and growth as a tax professional. ResponsibilitiesTax Compliance &amp; Reporting<ul><li>Lead the end-to-end Canadian tax compliance process, overseeing the preparation and review of partnership, corporate, trust and indirect tax returns against critical deadlines, utilizing internal resources and external service providers.</li><li>Serve as the key point of contact for external tax advisors; manage information flow by liaising with the internal corporate controller and private funds teams and resolve technical queries to ensure timely and accurate filings.</li></ul>Tax Audits<ul><li>Manage and coordinate responses to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) audit queries.</li><li>Lead the process of gathering supporting documentation, coordinating with internal resources, and draft comprehensive responses to tax authorities.</li></ul>Structural Maintenance &amp; Advisory<ul><li>Work closely with Finance, Treasury, Tax, and Legal teams globally to ensure the proper maintenance of holding and financing structures through the administration of tax policies and guidelines.</li><li>Support the maintenance of complex legal structures by reviewing funds flows, preparing adjusted cost base calculations, and calculating withholding tax on distributions.</li><li>Proactively monitor, assess, and guide the implementation of new tax legislation (e.g., EIFEL, OECD Pillar Two).</li></ul>Quarterly Tax Provision<ul><li>Assist with the preparation/review of quarterly tax provision working papers in accordance with IFRS and/or US GAAP, including the preparation of tax provision templates and deferred tax workbooks.</li></ul>Supporting Functions<ul><li>Assist with all aspects of Canadian domestic M&amp;A transactions.</li><li>Assist in preparing internal memoranda and other technical documentation as required for internal reorganizations and compliance support.</li><li>Assist in preparing, co-ordinating and/or reviewing annual tax projections and budgets</li></ul>Requirements<ul><li>CPA designation combined with a Master of Taxation or completion of the CPA In-Depth Tax Course (Parts I to III).</li><li>At least 8+ years of progressive corporate tax experience in a Big 4 public accounting firm or equivalent industry experience.</li><li>Deep expertise in tax accounting for publicly traded entities under IFRS and/or US GAAP.</li><li>Demonstrated experience managing high-volume Canadian tax compliance engagements, including CDS, NR4, partnership (T5013), trust and corporate returns for complex structures.</li><li>Strong technical knowledge of Canadian corporate reorganizations.</li><li>Proven experience with partnership/fund structures and related compliance obligations.</li><li>Experience with EIFEL and Canadian real estate taxation (preferred).</li></ul>Candidate Profile<ul><li>Excellent project management skills with a pragmatic approach to handling complex, high-volume assignments.</li><li>High energy, proactive, and self-motivated; able to multi-task and work independently in a fast-paced environment.</li><li>Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organization.</li><li>Capable of communication complex tax matters clearly and concisely to both tax and non-tax professionals.</li></ul>Position Opening Reason:New PositionBrookfield is committed to maintaining a Positive Work Environment that is safe and respectful; our shared success depends on it.  Accordingly, we do not tolerate workplace discrimination, violence or harassment.Brookfield is committed to creating an accessible and inclusive organization.
