About the Job

Mantel is a startup backed by Shel, Eni Next, BP, Breakthrough Energy, The Engine and New Climate Ventures. Mantel, born out of MIT, was founded by two MIT scientists and a Harvard MBA.

Mantel is developing the material solution to carbon capture. Our molten borates are designed to operate at the high temperatures found inside boilers, kilns, and furnaces – enabling highly efficient carbon capture that has not been possible until now. Carbon capture can be applied across industry to reduce emissions - and even achieve net-negative emissions. By solving for efficiency Mantel can reduce energy losses by more than 60% and cut costs in half, unlocking carbon capture’s role in reaching net-zero emissions globally.

Mantel is looking for a Fall Engineering Intern excited to join a promising carbon capture startup working on the development of molten salts as a novel CO2 sorbent material. Mantel is looking for both undergrad and graduate level interns from a variety of backgrounds including Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Materials Science who are interested in gaining machine shop, prototyping and fabrication experience. This is a full time 40 hour position in the Cambridge Lab. Fall Interns will be given the opportunity to work on a variety of science and engineering problems:

  • Improving our understanding of the performance of different material of construction candidates.

  • Running, analyzing and modifying lab-based carbon capture experiments

  • Design and fabrication of new diagnostics or components for our lab-based pilot with access to a fully kitted machine shop, state of the art 3D printing facilities and electronics lab.
