CENTER FOR NATIVE AMERICAN YOUTH
The Center for Native American Youth (CNAY) at the Aspen Institute is a national education and advocacy organization that works alongside Native youth—ages 24 and under—on reservations, in rural villages and urban spaces across the country to improve their health, safety and overall well- being. All Native youth deserve to lead full and healthy lives, have equal access to opportunity, draw strength from Native culture and inspire one another. At CNAY, this is achieved through empowerment and culturally-competent methodologies that include leadership, youth-led policy agenda and youth-led narration.
ABOUT THIS ROLE
The Assistant, Training Facilitation is responsible for supporting the delivery of the Democracy is Indigenous training program as well as providing input, suggestion and ideas for broader CNAY outreach to Native youth across the country. The position will focus on community engagement and trainings. The ideal candidate will be a team player who is willing to support the CNAY team in a part-time capacity (up to 10 hours per week).
This remote role reports directly to the Program Manager. The hourly range for this role is $20 - $24/hr.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Facilitate culturally relevant leadership curriculum for youth initiatives, including Democracy is Indigenous.
- Email and engage tribal communities, nonprofits, and other advocacy organizations about CNAY resources to connect youth to opportunities.
- Work with the Program Coordinator and Program Manager to edit, update and modify the Democracy is Indigenous workshop and training materials to be relevant for youth in 2025.
- Travel to conferences and present the Democracy is Indigenous training, often with another staff member.
WHAT YOU WILL NEED TO THRIVE
- Minimum two years of group facilitation or relevant experience required.
- Bachelors Degree preferred.
- Exposure working with Native youth national nonprofits.
- Computer proficiency, particularly with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Outstanding communication skills essential, including public-facing speaking.
- High energy, flexibility, trustworthiness, and compatibility; proven ability to determine and hold confidentiality is required.
- Ability to travel 20% of the time.
- Demonstrated commitment to the Center for Native American Youth and Aspen Institute’s mission and values.
- Knowledge of best practices in Native-youth engagement and leadership.
- Experience with civic engagement and policy advocacy preferred.
- Experience with facilitating large group activities and trainings preferred.
- High energy, flexibility, trustworthiness, and compatibility, proven ability to determine and hold confidentiality is required.
- Preferred experience leading Get Out the Vote initiatives.
- Firm understanding of civic engagement activities and approaches.
