What You’ll be Doing
The Community Food Co-op’s Cashier team members are responsible for maintaining outstanding customer service as per Co-op standards, processing sales quickly, accurately, and efficiently. They are proficient in all cash register functions, along with bagging groceries and Occasionally working the service desk.
What You’ll be Responsible for
- Providing friendly and welcoming customer service.
- Maintaining awareness of all promotions and advertisements.
- Accurately and efficiently ring on point-of-sale devices and accurately maintain all cash at the registers.
- Recognizing and knowing the name of each produce item each day. Know PLU (price look up) numbers for produce items.
- Bagging groceries and merchandise carefully.
- Maintaining orderly appearance of the register, keeping supplies stocked, and following side-work lists as applicable to shift.
- Ensuring curbside orders are picked with accuracy and timeliness as assigned.
- Letting appropriate people know of pricing errors, PLU errors, un-priced items and returned products.
- Ensuring department sanitation, cleanliness and safety standards are met.
- Performing other duties as needed and assigned.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Ability to provide friendly face-to-face customer service in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to learn and memorize price look-up codes.
- Knowledge of Co-op products preferred.
- Demonstrated skill in money handling and operating the POS system.
- Ability to accurately explain how membership works and benefits of membership.
- Attention to detail and multitasking skills.
- Ability to speak and comprehend English well, multi-lingual is a plus.
- Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to work in moderate and loud noise environments including, but not limited to paging, telephones, human voices, music, and machinery.
- Ability to meet physical demands including standing, bending, twisting, pushing/pulling carts, repetitive motion, keyboarding, and lifting 10-40 pounds regularly.
- Ability to climb ladders occasionally.

Both Community Food Co-op stores are full-service supermarkets and feature a full array of departments including certified organic produce, a deli cafe, bakery, wine shop, bulk foods, flower shop, health and wellness, mercantile area, meat and seafood market, and espresso bar. Established in 1970, the Co-op provides ongoing support for local farmers and community organizations.</p>
