We specialize in the development, production, installation and servicing of low-cost compact ion linear accelerators (linacs) using radiofrequency quadrupole (RFQ) linac and drift-tube linac (DTL) technology.  Our company is dedicated to using this position of leadership to provide the highest quality and most reliable commercial ion linac systems to meet the needs of customers in medical, industrial, and research applications. Position Summary: Under limited supervision, the Electrical Engineer at Hitachi Particle Engineering and Services (HPES) is responsible for leading major engineering projects or multiple smaller projects involving LINAC systems. This role includes the design, development, and troubleshooting of complex electronic and control systems from existing design through production and testing. The engineer ensures timely and cost-effective delivery of high performance systems, with expertise in RF power (425MHz), high voltage (100V – 30kV), instrumentation, and control systems.Responsibilities include but are not limited to:<ul><li>Design and document electrical systems tailored to customer requirements.</li><li>Manage project timelines and coordinate with HPES manufacturing teams.</li><li>Develop structured electrical designs, especially for high voltage and RF systems.</li><li>Create procedures for design, testing, documentation, and configuration control.</li><li>Program or support programming LINAC control software or test equipment using LabVIEW or other software.</li><li>Support installation, startup, servicing, and modification of systems at customer sites.</li><li>Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues using sound engineering principles.</li><li>Develop and modify control system software and hardware specifications.</li><li>Interface with internal teams and external customers to enhance product features.</li><li>Ensure quality and performance standards through rigorous testing and reviews.</li><li>Collaborate with other teams such as Manufacturing, Quality, and Field Service to improve integration and reliability.</li><li>Provide technical support with RF tuning, potentially training others</li><li>Estimate time and resources for project tasks.</li><li>Review the existing circuitry and make proper revisions or corrections, if required.</li><li>Perform additional duties as assigned.</li></ul>Qualifications<ul><li>Bachelor’s degree/Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.</li><li>7+ years in analog/digital circuit design, power supply, vacuum controls, and EMI/EMP troubleshooting.</li><li>Proficiency in MS Office.</li><li>Altium experience is preferred</li><li>SPICE tools experience is desirable.</li><li>High-level analytical and problem-solving abilities.</li><li>Ability to work independently and collaboratively in office and lab environments.</li><li>Experience at accelerator facilities, especially within HPES, is a plus.</li></ul>Physical Requirements <ul><li>Use of test equipment and hand tools; occasional lifting up to 25 lbs.</li><li>Work in confined spaces and elevated platforms.</li><li>Travel by air, train, or car for field assignments.</li><li>Visual acuity and manual dexterity for detailed work.</li><li>Normal color vision required.</li></ul>Our Values We are proud to say we are an equal opportunity employer and welcome all applicants for employment without attention to any factor that doesn’t impact your ability to do the job, including race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, veteran or disability status.  We are proud of Japanese heritage, with our values expressed through the Hitachi Spirit:Wa – Harmony, Trust, RespectMakoto – Sincerity, Fairness, Honesty, IntegrityKaitakusha-Seishin – Pioneering Spirit, Challenge  For California only (as required by California’s Pay Transparency for Pay Equity Act (<a href="https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billNavClient.xhtml?bill_id=202120220SB1162">SB 1162</a>): A good faith estimate of the expected salary for this position in our California office salary range that the employer reasonably expects to pay for the position upon hire is $125,000 - $135,000.
