<div>Reporting to: Digital Media Manager Supporting: ELM and the ELM Action Fund Compensation: $18/hour  The Environmental League of Massachusetts (ELM) and the ELM Action Fund (ELM AF) are committed to advocating for policy and building political power in Massachusetts to meet the scale and urgency of our environmental challenges. ELM seeks a student fellow with strong communication, social media, and design skills, an attention to detail, and an interest in building a career in environmental and/or nonprofit communications. This role will play a critical part in launching and growing the ELM Action Fund’s Instagram, helping to establish a strong visual and storytelling presence from the ground up.  The Communications Fellowship will run from early June through mid-November, with flexible start and end dates. Applications are due by April 24, 2026. This position will report to Bianca Pokrzywa, Digital Media Manager, and be a part of the Communications Team led by Leigh Chandler, Communications Director. Additional tasks may be assigned by other staff members related to events, development, partnerships, data management, and more.   Tasks  Social Media <ul><li>Assist with creating social media captions for posts on LinkedIn, Bluesky, and Facebook </li></ul><ul><li>Play a major role in supporting the launch and management of ELM Action Fund’s Instagram account, including developing content strategies to grow followers and engagement from the ground up </li></ul><ul><li>Create, schedule, and publish Instagram content including posts, Stories, and Reels </li></ul><ul><li>Capture and edit short-form video content for Instagram Reels, including filming at events and in-office as needed </li></ul><ul><li>Assist in writing scripts and storyboarding for Instagram video content  </li></ul><ul><li>Track and analyze Instagram performance metrics, including follower growth and engagement, and support the development of strategies to expand reach </li></ul> Communications  <ul><li>Research and incorporate new trends in marketing and design innovation, such as expanding our SEO/Google Ads use, tracking trending industry practices, and more   </li></ul><ul><li>Assist with expanding ELM and the ELM Action Fund’s audience segmentation, including identifying key words and behaviors for targeted Google Ads  </li></ul><ul><li>Assist with writing projects as needed: event descriptions, reports, press releases, digital advertising taglines, and mass email language  </li></ul> Graphic Design   <ul><li>Design flyers, graphics, and videos for social media, website, and event invitations (using Canva)  </li></ul><ul><li>Assist in maintaining the up-to-date content and design of our Wordpress websites (ELM, ELM Action Fund, Green Voter Guide, and NetZeroMA), and update websites periodically  </li></ul><ul><li>Design advocacy forms in EveryAction and create new mass email templates   </li></ul><ul><li>Review design materials from staff members outside the Communications Team to ensure ELM’s brand is consistent across the organization  </li></ul> Data Management  <ul><li>Update/track data in our EveryAction email marketing system (duplicate management, supporter count, sign-up details)  </li></ul><ul><li>Track the growth of follower counts across social media platforms, with a particular focus on building the ELM Action Fund’s Instagram audience </li></ul><ul><li>Collect data and report on social media, email, and website analytics  </li></ul> Other  <ul><li>Attend ELM events, as needed, and support event logistics, including capturing photo and video content for social media </li></ul><ul><li>Support elections work as needed (phone banking, canvassing)  </li></ul>  Preferred Skills  Competitive candidates will have strong writing and design skills and keen attention to detail. Experience with Canva, social media management, and video capturing/editing is required. Experience with mass email platforms is strongly preferred. Candidates should have demonstrated experience with Instagram management, including creating Reels, Stories, and in-feed posts, and should be able to show examples of growing an account’s followers or engagement, especially from early stages. While environmental experience is not required, we do seek someone compelled by ELM’s purpose to secure the health and wellbeing of the environment and of future generations.    Terms  $18/hour  This role requires 15-20 hours per week, with occasional weeks requiring more or less hours. The fellowship will run approximately from early June to mid-November 2026.   Location Candidate must be a Massachusetts resident. This position can mostly operate remotely, with the requirement to attend events and photo/video ops as needed, which may fall outside of regular 9-5 work hours. We strongly encourage fellows in the Boston area to work in the ELM office at least once per week.
