What you’ll be doing
As the face of the deli, FoH (Front of house) Deli Team Members provide a welcoming and inclusive environment by offering great customer service, while serving quality products and maintaining clean and full displays. Team members may also assist with placing orders, receiving products, and stocking.
What you’ll be responsible for
- Providing a friendly and welcoming customer service experience, internally and externally.
- Making fresh and delicious beverages, such as coffee, espresso, tea, and smoothies.
- Ensuring deli cases, coffee bar, and salad/hot bar are clean, stocked, rotated, and always appealing to customers.
- Ensuring that tables and service areas in deli and mezzanine are bused, cleaned, and stocked.
- Keeping dishes, glasses and cutlery well stocked.
- Keeping Leads and/or BOH (Back of house) Informed of the status of case items and hot food items during high volume hours.
- Understanding food allergies and can assist customers in selecting appropriate items.
- Understanding and adhering to portion control.
- Using scales to plate and weigh food accurately.
- Maintaining an awareness of all store promotions and advertisements relevant to the Deli.
- Merchandising the department to enhance shopping experience and maximize sales, including assigning proper pricing and signage.
- Stocking, rotating and facing product according to department’s procedure.
- Maintaining back-stock areas according to department’s standards.
- Receiving product and ensuring invoice accuracy.
- Placing orders as directed by the department managers.
- Cataloguing and coding invoices, separating special orders, updating and files paperwork.
- Ensuring department sanitation, cleanliness and safety standards are met.
- Completing the daily side work tasks as assigned.
- Performing other duties as needed and assigned - May include back of house tasks such as dishwashing and prep cooking.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Ability to provide friendly face-to-face customer service in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to learn about deli products and have an interest and ability to gain knowledge of natural and organic grocery industry.
- Ability to remain calm, think quickly, prioritize effectively, and problem solve within established guidelines, while handling multiple demands.
- Ability to work well with others in a cooperative environment where teamwork, compassion and constant communication are essential.
- Ability to meet expectations of regular, predictable attendance.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, and weekends.
- Ability to maintain current food handler card.
- Ability to work early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
Physical requirements
- Ability to work in moderate and loud noise environments including, but not limited to paging, telephones, human voices, music, and machinery.
- Ability to withstand prolonged standing and walking.
- Ability to frequently reach, bend, twist, and rotate.
- Has regular fine motors skills working and gripping with hands.
- Ability to lift 20 to 40 pounds occasionally.
- Tolerant of exposure to FDA approved cleaning chemicals.
- Can withstand exposure varying to temperatures: Coolers, freezers, ovens/stoves.
- Ability to climb ladders occasionally.
- Ability to operate all machinery necessary to perform job: espresso machine, meat slicer, reach in deli cases, ladders, etc.
