About the Job

Our Company

Whisper Aero is pioneering a more compelling and connected future by delivering cleaner, quieter, and more efficient propulsion solutions. Today's open rotor propulsion systems are challenged by safety, noise, and performance limitations at all scales. Whisper's breakthrough technologies allow aircraft to fly anywhere at any time without disturbing communities, at greater speeds, and with incredible improvements in efficiency and cost. Their innovations also enable a new generation of air moving products that can blend into the soundscapes of daily life. Whisper was founded by industry veterans, Mark Moore and Ian Villa, and continues to innovate a future that’s as considerate as it is compelling with its world-class team in Tennessee.

About the Role

Whisper Aero is a next-generation, air propulsion company that delivers thrust more cleanly, efficiently, and quietly than ever before. Whisper is seeking a dynamic engineer to become a member of Whisper’s Powertrain Team. The candidate will lead the Electrical Wiring Interconnection System (EWIS) design for Whisper's eQ propulsors as well as flight test vehicles. An ideal candidate will work closely with the powertrain, mechanical, and manufacturing leads to develop robust wiring architectures that integrate seamlessly into our eQ propulsors and beyond.

What You'll Do

  • Responsible for the end-to-end design of the EWIS including selection of aircraft-rated conductors and electromechanical components such as connectors, backshells, relays, termination hardware, etc.
  • Work with powertrain and systems teams to safely distribute and route HV lines, considering insulation/partial discharge mitigation and robust grounding/bonding practices.
  • Define routing, bulkhead placements, and insulation/shielding strategies that meet creepage/clearance requirements and EMI considerations for a range of voltage levels.
  • Conduct hi‐pot, insulation, and partial discharge testing on HV harness assemblies to ensure reliability under operational conditions
  • Analyze system requirements and size components based on current, voltage, and EMI performance, while ensuring compliance with industry standards.
  • Develop wiring schematics, diagrams, and harness layouts using industry-standard tools.

Basic Qualifications

  • US person status
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related technical discipline with minimum of 5 years of experience in EWIS design and
    development.
  • Strong understanding of electrical system requirements
  • Familiarity with EMI shielding and separation requirements
  • Experience working with harness fabrication shops
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as AS50881, DO-160Experience working with MIL-SPEC connectors and cables
  • Ability to route harnessing (both in CAD and physically in the airplane) in a strategic manner
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills
  • A willingness to work on tasks outside your primary job functions
